i have really been watching what i eat & i keep gaining 5-6 pounds every 2 weeks. is it possible for the gestional diabetes test to be wrong? mine was negative but i'm worried maybe that is the reason why i'm gaining so much?
I am having the same problem and my doctor sent me to talk to a dietician. My diet is fine except for to much salt thus I have been drinking a crap ton of water and I am retaining it.
my feet & calves are definitely swollen & i think it's water. i'm just so worried that maybe it's something undiagnosed that could harm my baby (i'm a worrier).
they check my bp & urine for protein & urine every appt and it is always fine. it's just so frustrating. i have already gained 43 pounds & it is taking a toll on my body.
I will be 37weeks tommorow and I've gain approx 55lbs,I started at 130lbs.I was told if I push on my skin and it turns white where I push its water retention.
Have you spoken to your doctor about your weight concerns?Mine was the one who brought it up to me.
I've gained in fits and spurts for a total of 30 pounds...I did gain 10 pounds between my 28 and 32 week appointments--after going for a U/S, part of it was baby (he's HUGE), part was polyhydramnios, and part was water retention. I went back two weeks later and hadn't gained a thing.
I agree with PP. Talk to your doc if you're worried. You might need to change how you eat and how much water you're drinking.
I gained 80+ lbs with DS and he was perfectly healthy! I was so swollen that I had extra "pockets' on my feet. I tried eating healthier this time around and it is the same thing. My dr predicts I will gain around 60. People just gain differently! And my babies have not been huge.

I gained 5.2 lbs in a week (from two Fridays ago to last Friday). I don't have GD and my total weight gain for the entire pregnancy (as of last Friday) was 16.2 lbs. I was told that it could definitely be fluid. My eating habits have not changed. I think baby girl also had a growth spurt.
That happened to me with my last pregnancy. I gained 45lbs total and 30 of those lbs were in the last 2 months! I passed the GD test, but I got SO SWOLLEN at the end. I worked out every day until 36 weeks, I ate normal... I still gained about 4-6 lbs every 2 weeks. It was frustrating and very upsetting! Turns out, I ended up being borderline pre eclamptic when I went into labor!!
Let me just tell you though, I lost 25 lbs in the first 2 weeks (18 in the first week) postpartum. Then I was down 35lbs total after the 1st month. The weight fell off me becuase most of it was water weight and I BF'd (which I think helps!). Don't worry, you'll loose it! You're body may never look the same pp, but you'll drop the weight.
Just make sure they watch your BP closely! My dr was very casual about it (it was elevated most appts), and it gets me very angry now looking back b/c he really could've put me and LO at risk. I switched drs for this pregnancy.
Original Poster, how far along are you? I gained a ton of weight at every appointment until about 34 weeks, and then I started gaining only small amounts, or losing, or staying the same.
i am 36 weeks & have been gaining like this since about 32 weeks. i did discuss it w/ my dr. he is the one who brought it up to me & gently reminds me that i should try to just gain 1 pound per week. he said try not to eat salty foods & a lot of carbs or sugar. this week, i let him know that i am writing down everything i eat & i'm not eating salty foods or carbs.
i started off w/ low blood pressure (88/60 or 98/60) and it has gone to 116/68 which is still considered normal so they don't think it's preclampsia & they also check for protein & sugar in my urine every visit & it is always fine.
my mom only gained 20 pounds with me so i just don't understand why i'm gaining so much weight. i read online that walking a mile per day helps with water retention so i'm going to start doing that.
At my 32w appt I had gained 6 lbs and my Dr. didn't say much because he was more concerned with my elevated BP. I just had my 34w appt on Friday and I had lost those 6 lbs and was back to my weight from my 30w appt. Maybe it was a fluke and will start to even itself out soon? My body has been very unpredictable lately and I only expect it to get worse over the next few weeks I have left. As long as you're eating healthy and your LO is growing on schedule try not to stress yourself out too much.

also another thing to keep in mind..are your appointments at the same time in the day? and are you eating a big meal or drinking alot before you go? or wearing heavy clothing? because all those things could easily messed with your weight by about 2 to 4 lbs.. ?
some people just gain more weight. I started out at 150 lbs - I am 37 weeks and have gained almost 50 pounds (I have been putting on about 2 pounds a week consistently since 20 weeks or so). I don't have GD (didn't even have to take the 3-hour test), my OB isn't concerned at all. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it much unless your OB brings it up.
