Northern California Babies

****Celyn***

I was just reading the info for the ASD insurance mandate.  Did you see that it is only going to be in effect for 18 months, beginning July 1012?  Do you know if that means that the federal changes to insurance is going to include ASD coverage nationally?  Also it clearly stated that medi-cal, healthy families and calpers are exempt but I didn't see anything other exemptions, do you know if that is everything or if there are other exemptions?  I'm really excited for families that will finally have some coverage but find it so odd that it would only be for an 18 month period.

  • I have no idea.  I just heard about it myself.  I know they are trying to force a national mandate.  At this point only 18 states require that it be covered under mental health benefits, so I doubt it will wings on the national level.  I imagine it will depend very much on who is President and who controls Congress, sad to say.

:::sigh:::: sadly, so very true.  Sorry to badger you with all the ?'s, it just got me so excited to see that CA was going to be mandating coverage.  I spend a lot of time on the SN board and hadn't heard a thing about it over there so I would love to be able to share and give some mama's a little ray of sunshine but i wanted to make sure i had my facts correct.  I just found it so odd that they would require coverage yet put a timeframe on it (the 18 months).  Makes me think that someone(politician) was able to get this little concession because someone else wanted something else passed.

Anyway,, thanks for sharing in general, i'm going to be scouring the legislation when I have the time so if there is anything you are interested in specifically let me know and I'll see what i can figure out for you.
