I'm so frustrated and I know it isn't a big deal but it's hard not to be really angry... I've been trying to get a necklace to wear in Peyton's memory since the day I left the hospital. I really didn't think what I wanted would be so hard to find, I want a heart shaped necklace with an opal in it and his initials and birth date engraved on the back. I have been to countless jewelry stores in person... talked to tons of places online... even went to the jewelers where we got our wedding rings in hopes that they would want to honor our loyalty and help me get it. I've found to places who can do it... but they are just such flakes, if I'm lucky I get one email a day from this guy... I tried calling but he was super busy and said he'd email me. The problem is #1 we can't spend too much on it, I am willing to go up to $300-$400 which I thought should be plenty... but lots of stuffy places just scoff at that; #2 opal is apparently a very soft stone for that reason lots of places just don't deal with it too much.
Anyways... that was a lot of rant for one stupid frustration, and I'm pretty sure I have found the place I will get it, but I've been emailing with this guy for 4 days and still don't have it ordered. Getting super frustrated, needed to vent.

I am sorry you are having problems getting the jewelry you want, that is frustrating!I've worked for a major jewelry retailer in the past, and alot of them have a hard time working to create a custom piece with Opal, because(like you said)it is a very fragile stone.
I have a suggestion-Do you want the opal because it's the birthstone for October,or because it's opal,or both?Pink Tourmaline is an alternative birthstone for October, and it is much more durable, more affordable, and easier to work with.Hope this helps!

I did actually consider using pink tourmaline... but then I read about the origins of opal "Prized for its unique ability to refract and reflect specific wavelengths of light, the Opal was called "Cupid Paederos" by the Romans, meaning a child beautiful as love." and I knew it had to opal. I just actually heard back from one of the jewelers and he is having it engraved today (he's in Australia so it's tomorrow morning) and then shipping it out! I can't wait, here's the link to it: https://opal-trader.com/opal.asp?id=11442
On the back will be his initials and birth date.
