We are having a little girl, and our son is Benjamin Tate (last name starts with . We would like a classic name, and would like her to have a more 'formal' name, and a nickname (i.e. Benjamin/Ben).
So far, these are the only two we've agreed upon, and need suggestions! Also, for Catherine, is it normal to use Kate with a "K"? Long story short, we wouldn't want to spell Catherine with a K due to the fact that it is my stepmothers name and that would be a bad thing for my mom Silly, but she would be upset.
Elisabeth (maybe call her Ellie?)
Catherine (call her Kate)
Any other ideas/opinions on this are appreciated!!
Re: Girls names that go with Benjamin?
The K & C are definitely interchangable.
How about Jillian? She can be Jilly as a little girl, Jill as a teen and young adult and she can use Jillian professionally, or she can stick with Jill- it's a nickname but still pretty professional sounding. I LOVE that name and it was a major contender but DH got sick of it.
I LOVE Elisabeth, NN Betsy, Libby, or Birdie. (Ellie doesn't really thrill me).
It's pretty common to use Kate/Katy with a K even when Catherine is spelled with a C.
You might also like Margaret (Maggie, Greta, Peggy, Midge, Margie, Margo) or Matilda (Mattie, Tilly).
If we have a girl, here are the names we're thinking of to go with our Ben, besides Catherine and Elisabeth, which are also on our list (!)...
Alexandra, nn Allie
Amelia, nn Amy-- I am in love with the Ben and Amy combo, but am not that fond of Amelia and am hoping to find something else for a fn.
HTH!
My name is Catherine and I often wish I'd been NN'ed "Cait" intead of "Cati". No one ever spells my NN right, even if they know my full name is "Catherine" they shorten it to "Katie." That has always blown my mind.
Both Catherine and Elizabeth are beautiful names (but I'm most definitely biased to both.) Have you considered Eleanor "Ellie" or Josephine "Josie"?
I like Elizabeth, I prefer the nn Betty, but that ight be too much with Ben.
I knew a Benjamen with sisters Mercedes (Sadie) and Elizabeth (Beth), and brother Peter.
I have a nephew, Benjamin and his sister is Emily.
They are actually triplets and the other boy is Collin.
