GD Ladies - any tricks on remembering to test?

Okay....I have been a diligent GD patient for about 3 months now.  I have to test 4 times a day: fasting and one hour post-meal for B, L, and D.  Up until the last couple of weeks, I have just remembered to test.  Now, I have gotten so busy and distracted, that I am missing my one hour and sometimes even my two hour testing window.  My doc has been okay since the numbers I am getting are still good, but he really wants to see me back on track with testing.

What do you do so you don't forget to test?  Any tips?  I still have two and a half months to go!  Ugh.

  • Set a timer!!! I was so good about testing on time during my first pregnancy (only had GD from 28 weeks on), but during my second I was testing from 11 weeks on, chasing my toddler, and doing child care for a friend's new baby baby for 2 months in the middle of it. I got sick of explaining to the endo that I wasn't skipping meals, just forgetting to test, so I started setting a timer for 60 minutes and starting it when I started eating. It was kind of inconvenient to travel with, shop with, etc., but it helped me remember 99% of the time :)

  • I'm slightly anal about it right now, and I make sure I write down what time I need to test. It helps me remember it, although I have forgotten or tested a little late.

  • I have a digital kitchen timer that I set. It was like $10 at Bed Bath & Beyond.

  • I set a timer too, it's the only way I remember, especially when I'm at work!

  • Ditto what the previous posters said - timers are your best bet.  At work I put them on my Outlook calendar and reminders pop up on my screen.  At home, I set an alarm on my cell phone.  It is the only thing that has worked for me.
  • I set my alarm on my phone everytime I have a meal. I have to test 2 hours after each meal so I set it as soon as I start eating.
