Why is this so hard for me?

Eliminating the pumps is not going well.

This weekend I went out of town and got really engorged even though I pumped 3 times a day.  Is engorgement just something that comes along with the territory?  It hurts.

I'm trying not to pump to empty but by then end of the day my boobs were like rocks.

Also, on a side note:  I was apart from DD for 2.5 days so this morning when DH went to get her and brought her to me.  I sat on the side of the tub and nursed her and she looked so sweet.  She would drink, drink, drink, then pull off and smile at me, then go back to drinking.  I think she missed me.  :)

Re: Why is this so hard for me?

  • Awww, she missed you! So sweet. I remember being slightly engorged when I dropped a pump, but then again, I didn't produce more than 5 oz./day. I imagine that since you produce more, you would be more engorged for a few days until your body adjusts.

  • Aw. Sorry Hun. It totally sucks. And yes, you will get engorged and it will hurt. But this too shall pass.

I would go as long as humanly possible before I pumped, and then I'd just pump to get some relief - not drain completely. I gave myself 6 weeks to wean completely as I was pumping 4x a day and nursing 2x and DD was less and less interested in nursing towards the end. She took to whole milk like it was candy. I think when it was all said and done it took me 5 weeks to be finished because at the end she just wasn't having me so I pushed myself to go all day at work without pumping then longer and longer and longer. I'd try to hold off till bedtime to pump for relief as that would help me get through the night.

Advil really helped me with the pain.

I'll be thinking of you!! It's sooooo hard, but it gets better, I promise!

  • Yep, it does.  :(  Sorry.  Cold cabbage leaves in the bra feel soooooo good.  Seriously.

    Aaaawwwwwww! So.Stinking.Sweet.

  • It took a few days for my body to adjust after each drop.  If I was super full then I would just pump to relieve and that's it.
  • Ok I just pumped for the first time at 1:15.  Only pumped 2 ounces for "comfort."

As if my boobs being the size of bowling balls instead of watermelons is comfortable.

    Are you people dead?

  • No advice but she sounds like she missed you and is glad you're back.  So sweet.  Hope it gets easier for you!

  • it completely depends on the person.  when i stop i dont get engorged at all, which is because my boobs are faulty and barely make milk.  oh well, i'm not bitter or anything.

my sister was majorly engorged and in pain for nearly 2 weeks. :(
