Talk to me about laundry

I'm getting overwhelmed by laundry these days, specifically DD's laundry, and just wondering if anyone has any advice.

I generally do about 4-5 loads on Fridays, as I'm off that day.  I do sheets, towels, crib sheet, changing pad cover, DD's blankets, our clothes, and DD's clothes.

The reason I'm getting overwhelmed is all the stuff DD gets on her clothes.  She just got all these new clothes, both from me (I went crazy at Target) and for her birthday.  And she gets food, dirt, paint, whatever, stains all over them.  And I obsess over getting the stains out.  I spray the clothes with Shout, use my bleach stick, etc.  It takes a while, and the stuff doesn't always come out.

What do you do for your laundry regimen?  Do you treat all stains?  Do you wash all your child's clothes on hot to get the stains out?  Or do you just try to let it go when it comes to stains, since they are going to grow out of the clothes soon anyway?

Thanks,

Amy

Re: Talk to me about laundry

  • I'm lazy. Like super lazy. I keep a stain remover spray in DD's room and spray her stains every night when I take off her clothes. If the stain is really bad, I spray a ton of the spray and put some of the baby oxi-clean stuff on it. It gets caked on when it dries. They sit in the hamper with the spray treatment until Sat/Sun when I do the laundry. Not the best system in the world, but ther haven't been too many stains that I was not able to get out.

I treat stains right away with this stuff.  I also do one load of laundry almost every night.  If I saved it all for one day I would go insane.  I feel sad when I can't get stains out of shirts I really like for him, but that's life.  There are some clothes that I refuse to put on him for daycare.

I also have that stuff but I haven't used it her clothes (just ours). I also haven't been pre-treating.  Good point.  I will start doing that.

This is a great idea - thanks!  I may start leaving it next to her hamper.  We rarely need it for mine or DH's clothes.

This is the ONLY stuff that gets our major stains out. If that spray doesn't work, I consider it hopeless.

I've rarely used stain remover but anything he wears for daycare i'm general ok with him getting dirty in it. That and my kids rarely wear white shirts.

You'll save yourself a lot of headaches if you pre-treat, for realz.  Also, what laundry detergent do you use for your DD's clothes?  I'm a life-long ERA lover and will not use anything else.

I am a long-time Tide user, but I am willing to try something else.  And I'm about at the bottom of my bottle of Tide.

Can you get this stuff at HEB?

Also, I love the idea of keeping the pre-treater by her laundry hamper! I'm totally doing this.

The only place I can find ERA these days is at Sam's Club.  My MIL has a membership so she picks up a big bottle for me when she's there.

Walmart and Lowe's also carry it.  And Sears Grand did, too, but I only go there once a year or so and I'm not sure if they still have it.
