I struggled through labor for almost 2 1/2 days and 4 hours of hard pushing with my son before having to go for a section and it was a hard recovery. I would like to try VBAC but I am terrified and feeling like I should just go for RCS.
Does anyone know what makes you not be a candidate for VBAC? Can anyone give me any advice so I can try and make this decision? My OB is behind me for VBAC but wants me to not gain any more weight - I have only gained 5 pounds but I am already 230 pounds to begin with. Thanks for any help....I am struggling.
Re: Another RCS/VBAC question.
Do you know why you were unable to deliver vaginally the first time?
My section was a result of failure to progress. My water broke on its own, and 31 hours later I was only dilated to 4 cm and spiked a fever. I asked my doctor about the VBAC at my follow up just for my own curiosity, and she told me that people who have a section without pushing have a better chance than those who do after pushing. I'm not sure if it's true or not, but I suppose if the reason for not being able to deliver is because of a small pelvis, it makes some sense. Of course, if you couldn't push because the baby's cord was wrapped around his/her neck, than it might not hold true.
My OB's office has rules (for lack of a better word) about VBAC. You have to go into labor on your own (no inductions), you can only go to 41 wks, and they don't like to use pitocin on VBAC candiates. I would ask your OB if your practice or the hospital has any requirements/rules for a VBAC.

If you don't want to have a VBAC, you don't have to. It's not like an elective c/s. Also I would throat punch my dr if he told me not to gain weight. I started at 211 and got up to somewhere around 250. I never looked at the scale.
I'm not a candidate for a VBAC because my first c/s was an emergency with a classical incision at 28w4d.
thank you so much ladies....I was unable to deliver vaginally the 1st time because my son was stuck on pelvic bone. They said that if I could push him down another inch, they would have pulled him out but I couldnt get him to budge. I was induced at 39 weeks due to low amniotic fluid and I think being induced probably had something to do with not progressing well enough. I went to about 8.5cm.
Yeah, I am not too pleased with the whole not gaining any weight thing. I worked hard to not gain more than the 5 pounds I have already gained and I am still trying but gaining is going to occur and I now feel like he is going to make me feel bad about every single pound. I have been considering changing OB's anyway so I can deliver at a different hospital.
I am definitely leaning more towards a RCS because I just dont think I am going to get past the fear of VBAC. It may just be successful but I terrified of pushing and pushing for hours again only to have to go for section anyway.
Your labor with your second baby might not be as hard as your first one. I pushed with my DS1 for 4+ hours also, and his birth ended in a c-section. DS2 was a successful VBAC (though I did push for two hours, but that's still considered within the range of normal with a first-time vaginal birth).
I don't think weight gain is that easy to control during pregnancy. A good website to check out is https://wellroundedmama.blogspot.com/ hth and good luck deciding.

Really? What about my posts made you feel it was necessary to share this bit of enlightenment? This isnt my first kid and I am well aware of weight issues. I dont think a 5 pound weight gain is cause for a lecture and while he may be the trained expert, he is only one of many who have different opinions on how to treat and speak to people. Not only does he not want me to gain weight, he wants me to go down by 12 pounds - how is that for a professional expert? He actually wants me to diet while pregnant. You still think I should listen to his expert opinion?
