Expired car seats?

So we just made the transition to a bigger car seat for my son, and I have 2 infant car seats (and several bases) that were manufactured in 2005.  Does anyone know if they do car seat recycling in the Lansing area?  Should I just throw them out?  I hate to do that because I wouldn't want someone to go dumpster diving and use them!

I've been wondering if there was a place in the area, but I haven't done much searching around. I've been hanging onto ours to save for the Babies R Us trade in event (they happen about 2x per year).
