Georgia Babies

if your baby army crawled.....

did they eventually crawl for real?  Kellen has been army crawling for the last two months now and he still isn't for real crawling.  he's using his arms and his legs, he's just not popping up.  he now has started to stand on his feet and hands "standing" in like a bear crawl position except he isn't actually moving yet, he just pops up and wobbles and sits back down.  neither Finn or Riley did the army crawl, they just went straight to crawling, so I didn't know if this was normal or not.  he's only 7.5 months old so I know its still early but.....

Re: if your baby army crawled.....

  • P only "crawled" for a week or two and went from army crawl to walking at 10 months.  Isaac crawled the regular way and didn't walk until 14 months.
  • Alec did a "one armed" scoot--similar to walking like a one-armed crab and he never crawled.

With Aerin, she was in physical therapy for her head and neck so they really worked with her to crawl. (they said she had to crawl in order to help pull the back of her head out) They had given us exercises to do with her to help crawl--we held her like a bridge and would move her arms and legs to crawl. I can show these to you if you like.

  • I wouldn't worry. Sophie crawls normally but I'm pretty shocked that she hasn't started walking yet. Its been 2 mos since her first steps! She takes a couple steps occasionally but she just prefers crawling. And Gavin never crawled- just did the butt shuffle and then stood up and walked pretty suddenly. Maybe that's why it seems Sophie is taking forever.

  • jax army crawled and never really regular crawled.  he would bear crawl if we put him in the grass.
  • Evie and Liam both army crawled then eventually got up on hands and knees and crawled.  Probably after 2-3 months.  Lazy babies.
  • Lila started army crawling at 5 months, and proper crawling at 6. Finn never army crawled and didn't crawl until 8 months.

  • Wow, I know I must be getting sick because when I looked at the title of the post I saw, If your "Baby army" crawled... and I was thinking, where would they be crawling to, this army of babies, then I clicked and saw you were talking about the army style of crawling...yeah.... I definitely need to go to bed!
  • James did the army crawl, then the full on crawl and then walking. Each kid is different, ehh!

  • Jack army-crawled till he was a year old, and then regular crawled for 2 months and walked at 14 months.  Ethan never arm-crawled at all, but didn't start crawling till 8 or 9 months (bad mommy, I didn't write it down!).  Lauren is regular crawling now at 7 months, seems so early to me :(

  • Ethan army crawled for about a month and then went to regular crawling so I think that you're fine
  • Kate army crawled, then regular crawled and then walked.

  • Cadence never army crawled. She went right to regular crawling at 9 months. Then walked 3 months later.

Trevor did a strange form of side to side rocking army crawling for a few months and during that time he would get up on his knees and rock too. He even went backwards and tried to crawl and wiped out many times before he finally figured it out.

It sounds like Kellen is well on his way and will crawl soon. I am amazed by how different each kiddo can be. When DD hit a milestone she pretty much had it mastered by the time she did it. DS will go for it without the full physical capability to do it and will hurt himself in the process..oy!
