Suggestions to help de-stress while cycling?

I'm going to be starting lupron this week, and I'm already so nervous that I'm having trouble sleeping and I get that pit in my stomach every time I think about doing IVF.  Does anyone have suggestions to help me not worry so much about it?  I know the outcome is out of my hands, but I think that is really the root of the problem for me.  Not being able to control it stresses me out.  Help, please!

  • Acupuncture has been helping me! I am also very nervous of the outcome, but like you said it's out of our hands.  Just stay positive hun!

  • I second the acupuncture!  It really helps me deal with the stress and have at least 45 minutes of quiet time once a week.

  • I might look in to acupuncture - are you doing it to help with IF also, or is it specifically for relaxation?

  • I had horrible nightmares for a week before we started stims...every night a different nightmare running the whole gamut (sp?) from being chased to falling and everything twice as scary in between.

The good news has been I have been sleeping like a log since starting. I am not sure if it is the meds or if it is the fact that it hasn't been as bad as I imagined, but I will hope for the same for you.

My advice...find some great Netflix, a great juice or snack you love, and a treat for after each injection. It makes things a LOT better.

  • I do acupuncture, too, but for me, it's more about feeling positive. In fact, my acu person gave me some pretty strict diet recommendations which probably stressed me more. Therapy is more relaxing for me. I find that talking with someone neutral (who specializes in IF issues) is really nice.

  • This cycle I have started doing Acu as well.  It seems to really be helping with the stress and I haven't had as many nightmares as before.

I also recommend finding a good book to get lost in.  I read a lot during my last cycle.  I made sure to read before bed to take my mind of the IVF.  It seemed to really help.

Also, while you are just starting out, you can still exercise.  Once I was 4 days into stimming I had to stop the exercise.  I don't usually exercise on a regular basis, but have been doing a zumba class that is tons of fun.

I also go to therapy and find that helps too.

    Good luck

  • I've also done acupuncture which I've enjoyed.  At home, I'll do some guided mediation which really helps relax me.  Also, as a general note, I tried to cut back on my hours at work and do more from home when possible.  Good luck!
