This is a repost from Nov 2011 moms, but I found this board to be so helpful that I thought I would post it over here for you ladies! Sorry it's so long! GL with your deliveries!
Dylan Theodore was born via repeat c-section on 11/8/11, 8lbs. 4oz, 20 1/4" long. This experience was a million times better than my first c-section, which was unplanned. I was well rested, mentally prepared and the nurses were amazing. I checked in at 7am, got my IVs and some blood work done. I was able to rest in my room for a couple of hours and then walked to the OR. The spinal was not bad at all! It stung for a few seconds and was done. I was able to stay completely alert and happy the enitre time whereas last time I had a bad med reaction and was completely out of it and nauseous too. As soon as he was born they cleaned him up and let me have him on my chest for skin to skin contact. We were wheeled into recovery and nursed right away. They didn't even weigh him until I had a good two hours of cuddle time.
I was
really happy about the changes in mom/baby c-section policies since my
last c-section. Last time I was not able to see him for almost two hours postpartum because they were doing all his stats and because I had a
bad reaction to the meds and I had no idea what was going one because
everyone seemed to be working on me rather than telling me what was up.
This time they had a dedicated baby nurse who was in charge of making
sure that mom and baby got immediate contact and her whole purpose was
to make sure everything went perfectly smoothly according to my wishes
and what was best for baby. They said they don't even like to do weight
stats right away because it is more important for the baby to transition
into the world with skin to skin contact and cuddling which I loved!
My recovery was a million times easier. I was up and able to shower etc. by the next morning and have been able to get around fairly easily this week. I never thought I could love another baby half as much as DS#1, but this little guy proved me wrong. Every time I see my two boys together I want to cry from happiness. DS#1 LOVES his baby. He calls him "my baby" and constantly needs to check on him and rub his head and give him kisses. Every morning he wakes up and asks "where my baby?" He asks me to take pictures of them together all day!
Overall I was very worried that this c-section experience would be disappointing like my last one, but I really couldn't have asked for a better birth experience. In someways I think it helped me heal from the emotional issues from my last one.
Thanks for reading if you got this far!
