Trouble TTC

New plan! Ta-ta, Clomid! (Update)

Hello, Femara!

So since my lining was borderline craptastic last cycle, my RE decided it was time to try Letrozole (Femara).

If anyone has any anecdotes or personal experience with Femara, I'd love to hear it. Since it hasn't been FDA-approved for fertility treatments yet, the only info I can find about it relates to its primary use (breast cancer treatment). I know everyone's experiences and s/e vary, but I'm open to any input.

And I will say that these pills are much cuter than the Clomid. They're so tiny and pink! Stick out tongue

Also, when I posted about my BFN on Wednesday I said that DH and I were talking about taking a short break for the holidays. That night, we found out that he will be doing a lot of traveling for work during January and February, which will make TI almost impossible. So we decided to do one more cycle before the Air Force makes us take a two month break. As Rocky Balboa would say, "One more round!" Stick out tongue

Thanks so much for your support, encouragement, and information. You all ROCK!!

ETA: Found a pretty good link about Femara and IF here: https://breast-cancer.emedtv.com/femara/femara-for-infertility.html But I'm still definitely interested in hearing your experiences, if you feel like sharing. TIA!

Re: New plan! Ta-ta, Clomid! (Update)

  • I took femara for 8 cycles and never had much in the way of side effects, and never any issues with mood swings or thin lining. I did get the occassional persistent, dull headache and nights sweats, but that's about it! I usually ended up with one or two great follies (though I did have 4 once!) and I tended to O before CD14. GL!

  • I did femara for one cycle and hated it.  I was actually one of the few that didn't get side effects on clomid but did with femara.  Everyday I took a pill, I had a migraine and of course I couldn't take motrin, only tylenol.

I hope you have a good experience with femara and that it results in a beautiful BFP!  Sorry if I scared you!

  • I reacted very poorly to clomid, but have had 2-3 mature follies for each IUI on femara.  It has been much easier on me than clomid was.  A little bit of hot flashes, and a little more emotional than usual, but nothing like clomid.  GL!

  • Last cycle I was on Clomid and my IUI was cancelled due to poor lining which was so disappointing. Not to mention I had horrible side effects of vision changes and light sensitivity. THis was my fist cycle with Letrozole, overall Id take these side effects over Clomid. So far Ive just been moody and emotional, some hotflashes. But the important part is my lining was and 8.6 on friday so we are a go for IUI on tuesday. Hope it works for you!
  • Yay for new plans! I haven't used either, but plan on asking for femara. B/c its not labeled as a fertility drug, its actually covered under my insurance when no other fertility medicines are. I have read on here that most people have less s/e from it than clomid, but everyone is different I guess. My step sister took both. She started with femara and developed very large cysts so then switched over to clomid and didn't get anymore cysts. Most people on here though post about cysts from clomid not femara. Good luck with it!
  • My RE said that he prefers not to prescribe it because its not FDA approved for IF.  If he does prescribe it, they get you to fill out a consent form! Apparently somewhere a doctor got sued because of a birth defect so they don't want to risk that...chickens! Lol. With that being said I have not personally taken it but haven't heard anything bad about it so GL! Hope it works for you!
