Babies: 9 - 12 Months

How long from cruising to walking?

How long did it take your LO to go from cruising to walking?  DS has been cruising for a couple of weeks now and was just curious how long it took other babies to figure it out.  He's getting pretty fast along the furniture!

Re: How long from cruising to walking?

  • My older dd cruised for literally 3-4 months before she started walking. Caroline walks but never cruised.
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut

  • He was probably cruising for at least 2-2.5 months before he started walking.

  • LO was cruising before she was sitting well. She still hasn't started walking on her own. So that's about 4 months.

  • DS has been cruising for about 3.5 months.  He started taking steps a couple weeks ago, but he's still not walking.  He needs to work on his balance a bit -- and his patience!  The kid's so excited to walk that he'll take 2 steps and then lunge at whatever he's heading towards.  Usually me.

  • He's been cruising since he was 7 months old, he'll take a couple steps then fall, but no full on walking yet, still needs to work on his balance and confidence. He stands pretty well on his own but he for some reason most of the time has to be holding on to something, even though he can stand without it, I've seen him do it.

  • He's been cruising since 7.5 mo and he is now 11.5 months. So 4 months. He cruises much more frequently now but it seems like he's been doing it forever. He doesn't really stand on his own yet unless he has toys in both hands and doesn't realize it. As soon as he realizes that he isn't holding on, he falls to the ground. I expect him to master standing first.
