Hello Ladies,
I've had GD for the majority of my pregnancy, started off on Metformin, then switched to insulin. My appetite has been pretty much the same as it was before getting pregnant, though I had to eat smaller, more frequent portions..
I'm now 35 weeks along. At the beginning of the week my fasting #s were normal, then started getting high (up to 100), BUT NOW the past few days I've been waking up several hours before my morning alarm & I'm hungry!! Even though I have a bedtime snack (the same as usual),..and actually, my sleep pattern has been very messed up too (thanks to H being sick).
I've been taking Humilin for my main meals, and Humalog at bedtime (19 units). Last night I went to bed at 11pm, got up to pee 2 or 3 times, and woke up at 6am. This time I was awake enough to check my BS, and it was 76!
Anyone have a similar experience? I probably should've called my dr yesterday but will definitely on monday,,,
Re: GD Question: Is it normal to be extra hungry in 3rd tri?
I'm at 28 weeks and have noticed an increase in appetite lately. I would barely have time to get hungry between all the meals and snacks before. Now I am noticing how hungry I am when I wake up and I can ever start to get hungry before meals now. I have definitely increased my water and if I have to add a small, extra snack here and there, I'm not stressing about it. My numbers have still be really good (under 80 fasting, under 120 one hour post-meal).
If you are waking up hungry, but are also up multiple times a night, you might want to add a small snack for when you wake up during the night. My doc has told me in the past that I can add a snack during the night if I wake up hungry or if I was going to be asleep for a longer time (ahhh...the luxury of still trying to sleep in).
