Cold weather moms

What coats are your kids wearing this winter?  Particularly if they are going out on recess until it reaches 0 (by temp or wind chill).

This year I just feel like nothing I'm seeing is warm enough, except a down coat which is $$$.   I wish I'd picked one up last year, but I waited too long =(

  • I got DS a 3 in 1 Osh Kosh coat from Sam's Club last year for $25. It's got a zip out liner that can be worn as a light fleece and a zip off hood. The whole thing combined is a heavy parka.

  • You can get those 3 in 1 coats fairly cheap with all the sales going on.  Check places like Sears, JCPenney, if you have a Sams Club or Costco membership they usually have winter coats.
  • I'll have to check out Costco this AM to see if they have anything.  I have a LE jacket for him, but it just doesn't seem warm enough to me.  But, probably with boots, hat, gloves and snow pants, he will be ok.

  • We have an LL Bean coat...the Katahdin, I think? We walk back and forth to school (just a 15 minute walk, but still....), he is out for recess unless it is a blizzard, and we just spend a lot of time outside. He also has LL Bean snow boots (3rd year for those - they come with extra liners which has been a huge bonus), their fleece neck warmers, face covers,etc...the whole shebang.

  • I just bought coats at Target this year - they are the 2 in one coats so the inside is fleece lined and then the water/wind proof outside.  They both have good hats and mittens and often, when its super cold, they have on sweatshirts as well.
