Question for you parents

I am just now TTC, but one of the things that scares me whenever I do get pregnant and have a baby is I don't have any family around me, they all live 6 hours away.  If you are/were in the same boat, please share your experience on how you managed with only your husband/partner and a few friends or whoever you had to support you.  Thanks.

Re: Question for you parents

  • We do have family around but I don't think our lives would be much different in many ways. My mom does watch our kids 1 day a week. This saves us $$$, but if she didn't do it our lives would look the same we would just be paying for one more day of daycare. We didn't go out at all the first year really. We started using our childcare teachers as sitters when we were ready for date nights. When a kid can't go to daycare my DH and I take turns taking the day off from work. Our family isn't as far away as yours but can't do last minute things like that anyway.
  • Having never done it any differently.. it's not a big deal.  Would it be nice to sometimes have last minute babysitters?  Yes.  But we have good friends, a babysitting 'coop' (from our MOMS club) and honestly we really like the privacy and lack of drama that comes from being more independent.
