Trouble TTC

Basic Acupuncture Question for those who have done it(n3tr)

I have my first acupuncture session tomorrow.  I'm nervous!  Do they ask you to take off any clothes, or do they just typically use exposed areas...?  Sorry if this is a dumb question...  Thanks!

Re: Basic Acupuncture Question for those who have done it(n3tr)

  • I didn't have to take my clothes off. She just asked me to expose my belly a little. I wore a tank top to make it a little easier too. I was really nervous too but I ended up liking it alot. The whole process was fascinating. Hope it goes well!

  • You don't have to take off any clothes.  If they do your belly, they might ask you to unbotton your pants and slide them down a little if they are high.  As for the back, they just life up your shirt or pull your pants down a little but nothing that will expose anything.

GL!  I hope this will relax you and help with things.

  • My acupuncturist asks that I wear two pieces so she can get to my tummy or lower back.  Also, something comfortable and loose.  She usually puts needles in my calves (so shorts, skirts, or loose legged pants), wrists and hands, then in my forehead and top of head in addition to my tummy.

I love my appts.  Enjoy your nap.   :)

  • My acupuncturist told me I could keep my pants on, but I had to expose my back. I was wearing a jonny though. So I wasn't completely exposed.

    Everyone Welcome!
  • I usually try to wear a pair of yoga pants and a tank top.  Depending on where I am in my cycle/what the focus of the appt is, I might have needles placed on my arms, hands, near my knees and feet, lower back or abdomen.  It's easier and more comfortable for me to just roll my pants/tank down or up.

    GL, and enjoy!

  • Hope you don't mind me replying to this post, but I want you to be prepared for anything, I did have to undress and wear a hospital style gown, when he was doing my front it was open at the front still wrapped around my bra and tucked into the top of my underwear, when he did my back I switched and opened it to the back.  He also did points down my legs, feet & arms which is maybe why I was in a gown.  So be prepared in case that happens with you.  GL.

This is what I usually do.  If I'm going straight from work, I keep an "acupuncture outfit" in the car to change into when I get there.

One thing you don't want to wear are tight jeans (makes it hard to get to leg points) or anything that might cause you discomfort if you are lying in it for a while (big belts, etc.)

Severe MFI. Me: supposedly all clear but eggs showed vacuoles.

IVF #1 January 2012, ER Jan 14th: 34R, 27M, 23F. Day 3: 18 embies still strong. Day 5: zero "good," one "fair," the rest "poor." Transferred 3. None made it to blast or to freeze. Jan 28: BFN.

Lucky IVF #2: Transferred two beautiful day three embies on St. Patrick's Day. BFP on HPT 7dp3dt. Beta 1 (14dpER)=106; Beta 2 (16dpER)=140; Beta 3 (19dpER)=264! First u/s 4.17.

My acupuncturist gives me a gown to wear over my underwear.

    Mine, too.

  • I've been going for about 6 weeks now and the only thing she's asked me is to expose is my lower belly for needles (between my panty line and belly button).  Otherwise it's been just my head, hands, lower arms, ankles, feet (and belly).

Don't be nervous!  It's awesome and very relaxing.  This is my first full cycle doing acupuncture and I ovulated on my own, without any meds on CD17 (you can click on my chart).  I have never ever ovulated on my own without meds that early before.  I'm a believer.  :)

  • I am glad I saw this post!  I have been considering acupuncture for a while now and have been hesitant.  I did find a few acupuncturists in my area that specialize in infertility and yesterday one of them showed up on groupon!!!  $59 for the initial consultation and 3 treatments!
