I was really hoping for a 5 day transfer, but we only have 3 embies still growing. They are each 2 cell, but I don't know anything more than that. I'm trying so hard not to be disappointed, but I guess I had much higher expectations for my first cycle :
The RE called this afternoon and said that our chances of successful pregnancy would be greater (50-60%) if we transfer 2 than if we transfer only 1 (40-45%) but if we transfer 2 there is a 30% chance of twins. I don't know if I'm ready or willing to take the chance of having twins. It scares me for many reasons (high risk pregnancy, the financial aspect, child care, etc).
This process seems to get harder and harder! Any advice?
Re: 3 day transfer tomorrow...2 cell embies?

I'm really surprised at the success rates that your RE gave you, especially on a 2 cell embie. Do you have any information about grading of the embryos or fragmentation?
As a point of reference, my RE would only do an elective single embryo transfer if the embryos made it to a day 5 blastocyst and were in their highest grading for symmetry. If they were lower than top grade, or it didn't look like they'd make it to day 5, he would take the top two and transfer.
A 2 cell embryo at 48 hours wouldn't have "qualified" for an elective single embryo transfer at my clinic.
As NMScuba said, it really is a very personal decision to make, and only you and your husband can decide what's best for you. My suggestion, if you're unclear of grading or fragmentation, is to have a chat with your RE tomorrow morning.
Good luck sweetie!

This exactly! Good luck with your decision, honey...
Converted to IUI only had 1 follie
This was the case with us. We were fortunate enough to have a great blast for transfer. However, all of our other embryos were slow or done. The decision was made for us. I think two is a great plan, but it's important to do what you feel is best. Good luck!
12dp5dt: 765; 15dp5dt: 1979; 17dp5dt: 3379...TWINS!!!!!
Our perfect baby boys were born at 36w1d!!
DH and I agonized over this for our first cycle, because we were also very concerned about a high risk twin pregnancy. In the end, we went with the embryologist's recommendation, which was to transfer two (we had one "good" blastocyst and one "good" early blast). One of those stuck, but it was unfortunately ectopic.
We are doing our transfer tomorrow as well, and I haven't had any update since the fert report, so I don't know what we'll have to transfer. But I know for sure that if we have two, we will be transferring them, even if they are both perfect, high quality blastocysts. I have made my peace with the idea of twins - I just want this to work.
If I were in your situation, I would transfer two, but I know it's a hard decision. Good luck!
Cautiously expecting our second little petri dish baby - stick, Baby, stick!
