Help, dog peed on carpet

In DS's room there was a pile of clothes and some stuffed animals on the floor.  Apparently one of our dogs peed in there, on this pile of clothes.  We all have had colds and stuffy noses so didnt even smell anything till yesterday which means it had probably been there for a couple days.  Gross, I know.  Our one dog had problems with incontinence in the past, and apparently it has come back.  My problem is, some of it got on the carpet too.  I shampooed the carpet this morning and went over that area REALLY well, but it still smells in there.  What can I do to get it out or am I screwed because I didnt catch it right away?

Re: Help, dog peed on carpet

  • Did you use a carpet shampoo formulated for pets? Usually those have enzymes in it to help break down smells.

  • Ditto the enzyme thing. However, we had an area rug professionally cleaned when our dog peed on it -- and I still know it's there :(

  • It was one to help with pet hair/dander/allergens.  But I might have to go to the pet store and get something else.  I wanted to replace that carpet but not for another year or so.....
  • Go to the petstore and pick up some Nature's Miracle.  Follow the directions carefully or it won't work.

I had a cat with bladder issues and this stuff works better than anything else, imo.

Do you think it will still work even though I've already tried cleaning the carpet?

  • I think so.  You might have to try a couple applications.
