Trouble TTC

Stupid things people say relating to IF - Tell me your's!

I'll start.

Today the nurse at my RE was asking about my classes.  I told her I'm just starting nursing school and that I had put it off because I wanted to have a baby first.  When that didn't work our I said screw it and am still TTC but also just started school full-time.  She told me that as soon as I start clinicals in January that I'll end up KU.  Really?  So, the $3K I spent last month and will spend again this cycle was a waste?  So stupid!  Indifferent  I can't believe a nurse and especially one that works for an RE would be so stupid.  I guess it's the whole stressing/thinking/trying that is keeping me from conceiving.  I just smiled and said that people told me that when I quit my stressful job almost a year ago and we see how much that helped.

After more than 2 years of fertility treatments, FET did the trick!
IVF March 2012 - BFP! - Severe OHSS = 8 days in the hospital in kidney failure
No heartbeat at 10w6d
FET August 27,2012 = BFP!
It's a boy!

  • lol, I liked your response about quitting your job. I guess the real problem is that people really don't understand.

Like my BIL complaining yesterday about having to get up early to take his son to school. OH NO, you have to wake up half an hour early to make sure your son gets to school on time. And he made it seem like the biggest deal.

Maybe I should tell him about my early morning montioring appts that take me 40 mins to drive to, at like 6:30 am!

And also, he knows were TTC, and have had two m/c. But sometimes people don't know how blessed they are.

  • I had weekend staff and this nurse was awful. I knew as soon as I saw her that she'd have trouble getting blood from me.

Sure enough she was taking a while and then looking at me and asking if I was OK. She then says "well, I'm not" gets a thin needle and tells me I should always tell the nurse / lab tech I need a thin one.

Well that's funny... it's the end of my 2nd cycle and no one has had too much trouble thus far. I think she was just embarrassed.

Then she gave me band aids and said "so you won't look like a junkie".  Indifferent

I wanted to say I wouldn't look like a junkie if you weren't sticking me multiple times. I hope she's not there tomorrow.

  • I am tired of ppl saying "Just be patient, you're young". I'm not impatient--honestly I'm terrified this is going to be a long, heartbreaking journey that all we end up with are financial problems. And patience isn't going to fix a medical problem! Anyway, good luck with nursing school. You will definitely understand compassion and empathy when you are a nurse! It's an awesome profession!

I hear that!  I had a different nurse last Friday and still have a larger than a quarter-sized bruise.  When getting my b/w this morning I mentioned it to the nurse that I usually get and she knew exactly who drew my blood.  Really?  She said she always bruises people.  Hello, why does she still work there?  Or can someone please train her?  I'm not sure what to say the next time I get "Big Bruiser".  I had to wear makeup on my bruise to a wedding last weekend because I was so embarassed.

  • My favorite that I'm sure you hear all the time is to "Don't stress yourself out and stop thinking about it".  I'm pretty sure that stress hasn't caused the block in my tube.  I feel like those who haven't dealt with IF or know anyone with IF issues doesn't understand how hard it can really be to achieve pregnancy.

  • I have one similar to yours.  DH and I had family portraits taken with our dog.  Someone said to me, thats a good way to end up pregnant, you will need new pictures in a year.  I said, I'd hire the most expensive photographer I could find if thats all it took.  Geesh.

I seriously will scream the next time I hear this one. Lord help the person who says it, too. Me relaxing is not going to make DH make swimmers, thankyouverymuch

  • Not 10 minutes after I told my sister about DH's sperm issues, she tells me about a mutual friend of ours and her husband (who my sister hates) and how they're having trouble too. She said, "I wouldn't be too upset if they find out he is sterile, that's God's way of preventing him from breeding." Thanks sis! Confused

  • I agree with all of these mentioned.  I hate when really uneducated people make stupid comments.  One girl told me, people don't get pg when they are uptight and can't relax during sex.  yeah ok....  I really am starting to get people telling me I need to get a move on, I am getting older.  My least fav of comments of people that know we are trying are the ones that assume it is all me or ask whose fault it is.  Which irks me, it isn't  a "fault".  That word just makes me feel even worse.

  • When I told my parents about my m/c, my dad honestly said "Well at least it wasn't a kidney stone, those things hurt!"  As if losing the baby that I had spent years trying to make doesn't hurt?  I know he didn't mean to be that hurtful, and was just trying to use humor to diffuse the situation.  But honestly dad?  A kidney stone worse than m/c?

A nurse at an RE clinic really should know better though.

  • People keep telling me to "Stop Trying" and it will happen. I want to tell them to "Stop talking".

  • When I finally worked up the courage to tell my dad we were going through IF treatments the first thing out of his mouth was " just don't be like octomom" I wanted to slap his through the phone. I told my brother not long after that, guess what the first thing out of his mouth was - yeah, some stupid octomom comment. Seriously.

  • Aside from the usual "stop stressing and it will happen" comments, I have been getting really irritated at someone lately who keeps complaining about having a boy.  She is pregnant and "wanted a girl so bad" but now she is having a boy.  I feel so, so sorry for her! (My last statement is full of sarcasm)
