Trouble TTC

Crappy news - HSG results

Unfortunately my HSG turned out to be extremely painful yesterday. I had a feeling something was wrong when it went from sort of uncomfortable to tears streaming down my face. The Dr. showed me that while one tube is totally fine the other is completely blocked. He had a lot of info and honestly my husband and I didn't totally get what he was saying, but it sounds like we'll know more next week when our usual RE is back in town. It sounds like there are pos and neg outcomes for lap surgery, and I think they are going to recommend we try IUI a few more times, though it's super scary to know that if the egg fertilizes it could go into the blocked tube and result in a tubal pregnancy. I'm a mess, but it's better to know at least a piece of the puzzle as to why the 1st IUI failed. I searched a bit on this site to read up on others with one blocked tube, but if you have anything to add, your experience would be appreciated.
TTC since 8/10.Hypothyroidism, put on Synthroid. Clomid 50 mg + IUI Oct '11 = BFN. HSG found blocked tube Nov '11. Lap + Hysteroscopy to remove tube and fix septum Dec '11. Jan/Feb '12 Clomid 100mg + Folllitism + HSG + Vivelle Dot + IUI #2 = BFN. 3/30/12: Natural Cycle BFP - beta 59 @ 12dpo, beta 286 @ 16dpo Baby boy arrived 12/8/12!

Re: Crappy news - HSG results

  • I'm sorry it was such a bad experience and you got such disheartening news. I personally wouldn't do another IUI with blocked tubes. That's my two cents.

  • I'm sorry you had such a bad experience!  Do you think your doctor will want to do surgery on the tube or remove it all together, preventing a tubal pregnancy?

I hope you come up with a plan soon that works for you!

  • So sorry you have to go throught this. I have a blocked tube from a tubal cyst years ago. My tube twisted so I am not a candidate for surgery. I just had my 3rd IUI, only go ahead with them if the follies are on the unblocked side. The dr wasn't worried about a tubal pregnancy. If/when I get a bfp I will go in for an u/s to be sure all is ok. Don't get to down. In 4 months I have only had to skip one due to ovulating from the wrong side. Did they make you turn from side to side during the test?

Thanks for your words of encouragement, D&J1202! I'm hoping we can go ahead with IUI and that it will work at some point on the unblocked side. I didn't have to move from side to side during the HSG but the x rays looked clearly blocked on one side and not on the other. Does your RE have any ideas as to why your IUI's have not worked if he/she doesn't think the blocked tube is a factor?

TTC since 8/10.Hypothyroidism, put on Synthroid. Clomid 50 mg + IUI Oct '11 = BFN. HSG found blocked tube Nov '11. Lap + Hysteroscopy to remove tube and fix septum Dec '11. • My first 2 IUI's my numbers weren't so great 1st one only 1 follie w/ thick lining, 2nd 2 follies not so great lining and DH's # dropped not bad but not great like usual. I didn't respond as well to Chlomid as I did to the Letrozole so he really hopeful this cycle as we all are. I don't think our chances with 1 tube are that much less besides maybe skippin a month here and there. It was actually a nice break that month. It all depends on how often you ovulate from the blocked side. Do you get really bad cramps form that side when AF comes? I do it's aweful.
