Albuterol while pregnant?

Anyone talk to their doctor about albuterol while pregnant? I will ask at my next visit but last night I wasn't even thinking about it and I used my inhaler, then I panicked and read the insert in the box. Next time if I feel I need it I will call the doctor otherwise I will ask at my next appointment. Just wondering if anyone discussed this with doctor.

My OB said it is fine and even wrote me a prescription for a new one since mine is rather old. She said asthma is comparitively one of the better conditions to have with pregnancy because most of the medications are not harmful to the baby. I am also taking Advair, and she said that was fine. I stopped taking Singulair because it is in pill form, but that was just my decision...I didn't ask about it.

My doc said albuterol was fine.  I was on symbicort and that she took me off as soon as I found out I was pregnant.  I haven't had to use my inhaler so far while pregnant but I definitely will if I need it.  My doc pretty much said that it's more important for the baby that I'm getting enough oxygen.

I almost did the same thing.  I got mine out and stopped myself because I wasn't sure.  Thanks for asking this!!

Hi I'm mostly a lurker, but due in June also with you ladies.

I just wanted to respond to this because I have severe asthma and I did discuss all of my asthma meds with my doctor.  He said albuterol is a category C and to avoid it completely (unless its an emergency) in the first trimester.  I'm sure everyone's condition is different, but I would strongly encourage you to discuss it with your doctor.

My ob said not to use my albuteral at all. He told me if it comes down to being able to breathe to use my Duoneb becuase the amount of albuteral is less in that than my inhaler. I would call your doctor and ask.

With all my pg my OB has said my albuterol and Advair were okay. I've had to use them with my other pg.

Yikes! Now I am wondering why my OB said it was category B! Pardon me while I go freak out for a minute.

Edit: A quick Google search says you are right! I am so upset!!!! I can't believe my doctor told me something that was completely wrong!!! Thank you for sharing because I never would have thought to question her judgement. I may be looking for a new OB now.

It's fine. I have severe asthma and used my inhaler @ least once a week when pregnant with my son. He's healthy and fine. My doctor said it was better for me to be breathing and getting the oxygen to the baby than to deprive both of us of oxygen. 

 

I'd take it with a grain of salt. All doctors are different and will have different opinions and such.
