Re: Daily Bed Rest Check-In (Friday) 11/11/11
Hi and happy Friday!
1. House phone or cell phones only?
Both, tho 90% cell phone. I moved away from home a few years ago and kept the same cell phone number - I don't think anyone other than our parents ever bothered to learn the new number!
2. Three square meals a day or frequent, smaller meals?
Ummm.... both??
I defitinely eat three meals, and usually snakc inbetween. I try to keep the snacks small and healthy (fruit, yogurt, etc), tho yesterday I went face-down into a tub of "Chicago style" popcorn - half caramel, half cheese. YUM!
3. Do you prefer the mountains or the beach?
BEACH ALL THE WAY! There's something about a palm tree that soothes me. I have faithfully taken a beach vacation every year for the past 20+ years, usually to somewhere in Mexico. In fact, today I should be flying to San Diego for a babymoon on Coronado Beach, but obviously that's not happening!
4. Updates & Vents
My massage therapist neighbor coming over today to give me a prenatal massage. I think I will make this a regular occurance!!!
Morning ladies!
1. House phone or cell phones only?
Cell phones only. We had a house phone for a little while, but the only people that called that # were telemarketers.
2. Three square meals a day or frequent, smaller meals?
3 square meals with snacks in between
3. Do you prefer the mountains or the beach?
I grew up on Long Island, so definitely the beach! But I also enjoy the mountains
Happy Friday everyone! One more week closer to big healthy babies!
1. House phone or cell phones only?
We moved in August and did not get a landline set up at our new house, so now we only have cell phones. Which is fine most of the time but now my cell is acting up!! It drops calls and freezes up on me with no warning. That is probably not good when I'm here all day by myself and almost 34 weeks pregnant with twins!!
2. Three square meals a day or frequent, smaller meals?
I am like the other ladies... BOTH! I eat pretty frequently but definitely get my 3 larger meals in. Snacks are impossible to avoid when you're on the couch all day! (it's amazing I haven't gained twice the weight that I have already...)
3. Do you prefer the mountains or the beach?
BEACH!! Give me an ocean and sand and a fruity drink in my hand
It is so relaxing to listen to the waves. The funny thing is that I get incredibly motion sick on the water, so cruises are out of the question for me. I love the ocean but I want some solid ground to go with it. Lol!
4. Updates & Vents
No updates today but...
I have the longest vent ever about my MIL and our name choices. DH and I had a huge discussion about it last night. I will try to make a very long story a little shorter.... Our names are Kate Margaret and Violet Sue. Margaret was my grandma's name (passed away 1.5 years ago but played a big part in raising me) and my mom's name is Susan and we are also very close. We had not shared the names with MIL yet, but she was asking yesterday and DH told her what they were on the phone. She immediately acted hurt that her name was not incorporated and DH felt put on the spot/uncomfortable.... so he decided to tell her that the 'K' in Kate was symbolic for her (her middle name is Kay) I don't know why this bothers me so much but it does. DH decided/said all this without even talking to me about it and now I feel like it is going to be an issue forever. Obviously we can't take it back ("Oh I was just kidding, we actually did not even think about naming either of our girls after you..." yea right!) and the part that annoys me the most is that she is the exact type of person that will have to bring it to people's attention ALL. THE. TIME. I feel like every time someone asks her their names she will say Violet and Kate.... and Kate is named for my middle name of Kay. I might be over reacting but it still bothers me
1. House phone or cell phones only?
I wish it were only cell phones - I hate having and spending $$ on a house phone, but my husband occasionally uses it for work but more than that, he has this weird sense of pride in the fact he has had the same phone number for 15 years.
2. Three square meals a day or frequent, smaller meals?
About 6-8 smaller meals. I've always been a grazer, but especially now I can't eat that much at once or I get way too full.
3. Do you prefer the mountains or the beach?
BEACH. So much so that I left my family in PA and NY and moved to Florida, now residing in West Palm with no intentions to ever leave the coastline. The first trip I make when bed rest is over is to the sand & ocean...can't wait! My 6-yr old nephew in NY asks me each time we talk, "have you been to the beach Auntie?" and it kills me when I keep having to tell him "no" and then he asks "why?" Agh!
4. Updates & Vents
So I made the mistake yesterday of reporting the crampiness to the OB, she had me come in to the office, then sent me to L&D last night. Lovely. The monitors showed that I was having contractions every 3-4 mintues - seriously?? Apparently that crampiness I was feeling translated into contractions on the monitor. Most of them I couldn't really feel and they were just little bumps on the graph, but I had a couple HUGE ones that looked like Mt. Rushmore. I knew it was going to be an uphill battle to convince them to let me go home. But, my cervix was 3.5cm, no dilation and the FFN was negative. Otherwise, I think I would have needed to hire a defense attorney to bust me out of there. So much pubic pain today, crampiness still. Also, LO hasn't been moving as much today but maybe he's just worn out from all the contractions too. But at least I'm back at home, on the couch and moving as little as possible. Now if LO will just perk up a little more I'll relax ("relax" being a subjective word these days of course).
Will be keeping you all in my thoughts & prayers over the weekend...Bake babies bake.

1) We have both, and I wish people would call our house phone more!
2) 3 meals a day. I know I should do smaller meals and snack more, but I just don't get hungry in between.
3) I'd have to say beach since I like that climate more. We've taken a cruise every year for the past 3 years until this year, and I'd kill to go on one now!
4) Vent - some of my family and friends just aren't taking this whole bed rest thing seriously. My mom - who was at my appointment with me when I found out about bed rest and the doctor stressed the need to be laying down - asked me yesterday to go to a fair with her that had lots of good food, today to go run errands with her, and if I could come over on Sunday for a BBQ for the people who couldn't make the shower because of the snow storm two weeks ago. I said no to all of those, so she asked if I could "at least" come over for dinner one night this weekend and I said I'd try, depending on how I feel. My sister laughed and said its not like I'm going to be feeling better as time goes on. I get that, but some days are better th others! I know they're trying to include me and help break up the time, but I'm trying really hard to be good and do what the doctor says. A friend - who's a doctor! - called me today and asked me if I could meet for lunch or dinner one day. She knows about my bed rest, but wanted me to drive 45 minutes each way to her to sit in a restaurant for a few hours. It's getting to the point where I don't want to answer my phone anymore!
1. House phone or cell phones only?
We have both but I'm tempted to cut off the house phone. It's too expensive for the amount we seem to use it.
2. Three square meals a day or frequent, smaller meals?
When I was working I would eat three meals a day, plus a few snacks. Now that I'm on bedrest I prefer to eat smaller more frequent meals. One of the benefits of this is that it takes up time and makes the day go a little quicker.
3. Do you prefer the mountains or the beach?
Beach, but thats just because I've never really seen the mountains!
4. Updates & Vents
Really looking forward to my shower tomorrow!! I can't wait to get out of the house for a few hours and see people. My dad also got a new addition to the farm, a miniature donkey. I'm looking forward to meeting her!
1. House phone or cell phones only?
Both we do not get great service at our house and we can transfer our cell phones to the house number. It makes it nice except then we do not know who is calling.
2. Three square meals a day or frequent, smaller meals?
Three meals with lots of snacks.
3. Do you prefer the mountains or the beach?
I like both my family owns half a mountain but I enjoy the resorts where the beaches are.
4. Updates & Vents
I have no updates for today. My vent is the fact that I ask to be hooked up for my NST and today I was not hooked up until 1. Most of the nurses have no problem accomplishing this, but there are a few that cannot do anything timely from the NST to giving me my meds.
1. House phone or cell phones only? only cells here!
2. Three square meals a day or frequent, smaller meals? Three meals but with lots of snacking...
3. Do you prefer the mountains or the beach? BEACH!
4. Updates & Vents I had an ultrasound today and my cervix has shortened very little since bed rest so I feel excellent! Also, 32 weeks today- yey!
Have a great weekend everyone
Happy to say that I haven't gotten around to responding to this yet because I have had lots of visitors over the last several days
1. House phone or cell phones only?
Both, but we rarely use the house phone, and will probably be getting rid of it soon to save money.
2. Three square meals a day or frequent, smaller meals?
Three square meals, with the occasional snack.
3. Do you prefer the mountains or the beach?
I love both! My parents were not really beach vacationers, so we went on a lot of road trips out west, and I still like that type of vacation. But my husband and I LOVE going on cruises, and living in a cold climate, it is nice to go someplace sunny and warm.
4. Updates & Vents
My big vent over the whole last week was that my MFM here in the hospital seemed to be trying to make me into a diabetic without my having any prior problems. After a week of testing me, my numbers pretty conclusively established that (1) I don't have GD and (2) eating a GD diet actually makes my blood sugar CRAZY low. Hopefully this will get her off my case!
