High-Risk Pregnancy

Progesterone questions!

My progesterone was 16 at 4 weeks when I first found out I was pregnant with an Hcg of 33, now I'm 6weeks with an Hcg of 10,500 but my progesterone went down to 10! They put me on 200mg progesterone.................will this help or am I doomed? :( I already had 1 m/c 3 months ago!

Re: Progesterone questions!

  • Not doomed - the hcg is rising well, and the progesterone is still in normal ranges.  Progesterone supplementation should easily resolve the problem.  I went on around 5 weeks in a similar situation (hcg increased beautifully, progesterone dropped) and baby is healthy and kicking now.

  • I had progesterone supplements in the beginning (from about 6 weeks until 12 weeks) with my last two pregnancies. As long as your HcG keeps rising, then there shouldn't be an issue. I have read that some miscarriages could be the result of low progesterone, so having supplements could prevent this from happening. They won't prevent a miscarriage that is going to happen due to chromosome abnormalities or anything, though. Be optimistic, the progesterone supplements can only help!
