Acupuncture?

Is acupuncture a method of relaxation while in labor? I know it sounds crazy, but when I was being poked for my epi, it was helping me relax. I've never tried acupuncture and I'm sure the experience is much different, but I'm open to new things.

Re: Acupuncture?

  • Not sure about during labor, but when I had it done to induce labor it was certainly relaxing.  I know acupressure points can be used during labor for relaxation.

  • Yes, some women use acupuncture during labor.  I have a chronic pain condition and have used acupuncture in the past for pain relief.  Some acupuncturist will put "tacks" in your ears that can stay in place for up to a week for pain relief.  If it's something you're interested in you should contact an acupuncturist and talk with them.  Maybe have a couple of sessions before hand so you know if it works for you.

  • Thank you ladies, it is something I will look into now.
