Am I off my rocker?

MIL gave DD a package (books and such) and on it, had two dum-dum suckers.  She said those are for her too, you can just hold them and she can lick, drool on them. 

My mouth hit the floor.  I thought to myself, WTF??  Am I completely wrong for not wanting to give my 7 month old candy, let alone a sucker (even if I hold it)?

    You are not wrong.  My mom tried to give my DD a piece of pumpkin bread and I flipped out a little bit.  I just don't think they need that kind of stuff yet.  They'll get it plenty when they're older, I'm sure.  Plus, hard candy = choking hazard IMO.

    I'd say that's ridiculous but my MIL has the same idea. I told her don't ever get near my kid with a sucker for at least another year.

    Heck no!  I got irritated when one of my friends put frosting in DS' mouth.  I was saving that for his first birthday.

    You are not off your rocker. I am not against a taste here and there though. DD has had some chocolate and ice cream and she ate a pumpkin muffin for breakfast every day this week. I don't see the big deal, but I also don't think it is wrong not to give it.

    My sister let DD lick her sucker when she was about 10 months old.  I flipped a little.  Although, DD did love it - lol.  I think each parent has a right to choose what their child will or will not eat.

    I would eat them myself.  If I gave A a lick, she would just be upset I took it away.  I don't want her to have any candy for a while if I can help it.
