XP - Did you use rolled up blankets/towels in the crib for DC? How?

XP - Just wondering if anyone has done this as a sleep positioner of sorts, I think I have seen it mentioned on here a few times. How did you do it? What size were they? Did you put them under the sheet or over? Were you worried about DC scooting down or suffocating or anything like that? With DS I had used an actual sleep positioner that I borrowed from a friend but that apparently is a big no no these days, right? I have DD in the RNP right now which provides a nice little cushion for her but I know I have to transition out of that soon.

  • I have heard of rolled up towels and I have also heard of pool noodles- both under the sheets.  I personally use a sleep positioner. The part that DS lays on is completely flat and the wedges are firm with very large breathable  air holes.  I feel it's safe, but that's just me.

  • i know there are a lot of mixed feelings on this, but we use towels. we took her baby towels (the thinner one so it is not high) and roll them and place them over the mattress under the sheet and sheet saver. at first i was a little worried but everything is fine. i will probably remove them soon as now she has been in her crib for about 6 weeks. we did it at first as a transitional thing and i definitely think it helped!
  • I put normal adult towels underneath but they are really old so not fluffy and not very big. I just rolled them really tight and put them on both sides. I don't worry about him suffocating because he has excellent head control and he starts lying on his side and eventually rolls to his back.  I sat in his room during a couple of naps and watched him and when he does get his face close to the towel rolls he is capable of moving it away. I will eventually start spacing them out as he gets more comfortable in the crib.

  • I also put rolled up towels under the sheets to give DS that "snuggle" feeling, but when I put him in his crib I make sure that his head is above the end of the roll so he can move his head from side to side and the towels aren't in his face.  I will probably start transitioning away from that soon.

  • We used rolled up blankets--muslin, so they were thin--on top of DD's sheets. I just kept her head above the top of the roll and swaddled her, so I wasn't worried about suffocation. She's 15 weeks now, and we still use the blankets, but we'll probably try to transition out of that soon.
