There is just SO MUCH to read about cloth diapering, my head is swimming.
Can anyone sum up for me what can/cannot (or should not) touch babies skin? I know hemp is one of those things... anything else? Is it ok to use hemp in a Thirsties cover with a different insert on top?
Also, I have 2 pocket diapers that I am trying out just to see how it goes, Diaper Rite (snaps) and Kawaii (velcro) she has leaked out of both at the legs. They seem to be plenty tight, and the inserts are definitely soaked when I take the diaper off so I know they are not repelling. I guess she is a "heavy wetter" as this has happened after only about 1.5 hours in the diaper. Is this normal? Should daytime require more than one insert? I have 2 friends whose kids, both younger and older than mine, do find with just one insert. They are using diff brands of pocket diaper, though, maybe that is the difference?
Any help is appreciated. I want to do this, but she's not leaked pee out of sposies so if she leaks out of the cloth, it might not make sense to switch.
Re: New/Considering CD, 2 questions
I started using 2 inserts at about a year because DS was leaking with one (I use bumGenius 4.0 when I'm not using PFs). That fixed the problem.
Don't put microfiber next to LO skin either.
Microfiber is the only thing I've heard shouldn't touch baby's skin. I have not heard that about hemp.
DD requires 2 inserts per pocket during the day.
I use pocket diapers quite a bit and I consider DD to be a pretty heavy wetter. If I use a hemp insert, I change her every 2 - 2 1/2 hours. If I use microfiber, I have to change her in 1 - 1 1/2 hours or she'll leak.
I've only heard that you can't put microfiber against babies skin also. As far as I know, hemp is fine.
Thanks, everyone! Perhaps what I read about the hemp was that it CAN irritate babies skin, not that it can't be used against the skin. Thanks again!
