Trouble TTC

Starting clomid tomorrow!!!

Hi, i need a buddy :) I start clomid tomorrow after 13 months of ttc. I'd love to hear your opinions and successes or failures with it. I'm just starting with 50mg. Very new to all this and I look forward to having some ladies to talk to about my struggles!

Re: Starting clomid tomorrow!!!

  • Welcome to the board! Hopefully your stay will be short. Glad that you are finally getting to move on to some meds after a very long 13 months I'm sure.

In regards to Clomid, I'm going to be honest with you. Most of the ladies on this board have tried Clomid and it hasn't worked for us. Or it only works in combination with some other drug but still hasn't resulted in a successful pregnancy. Also, are you being monitored? Unmonitored Clomid use is dangerous. Make sure that your OB or your RE is doing u/s to monitor egg growth. I wasted a year being unmonitored only to realize that Clomid, in any dosage, does nothing for me. Other women are unmonitored and end up with insane amounts of follicles viable for pregnancy...aka high order multiples....scary.

Good luck to you! Hopefully Clomid is your ticket!

  • Hi,

I could (almost) be your buddy...

I'll be starting my first round of clomid in the next 2-ish weeks (depending on AF and Thanksgiving... 'cause what could be better than that dynamic duo) after 15 months of ttc.  I might not be all that much help or a resource for you, but I will be interested hearing your experiences.  Even if my cycle's timing is not your ideal "buddy," lots of the women on this board have been on clomid, so we are by no means alone. :)

    Welcome and good luck!

  • Good luck with everything.  Are you being monitored on it?  It has a lot of side effects, most of which are pregnancy symptoms.  I responded well on my first cycle but still ended up with a BFN.  Hope you have better luck that me!

  • I just finished my second cycle with Clomid. My experience in a nutshell:

Clomid cycle #1: 50 mg CD3-7. CD12 u/s revealed a 9 mm lining and one perfect 21 mm follie. Ovidrel trigger shot on CD12. BFN.

Clomid cycle #2: 50 mg CD3-7. CD12 u/s revealed a 6 mm lining and a bunch of teenie tiny follies (not great). Tried 100 mg CD12-17; CD19 u/s showed two follies and a lining just this side of acceptable. Ovidrel trigger shot on CD19. BFN.

Overall, Clomid made me tired, irritable, moody, and hot (not in a good way... extreme hot flashes). DH calls me "The CloMonster" when I'm taking it (thank God for his sense of humor!).

I'm waiting to hear if my RE is changing me to a different medication because the Clomid seems to be affecting my lining, and it's definitely drying up my CM... both of which may account for my BFNs. Yes, Clomid got me to ovulate, but it took its toll in other ways. However, I know Clomid has worked on other women (otherwise they wouldn't keep prescribing it, right?!).

And, as PPs pointed out, pleaseohpleaseohplease make sure you're monitored while on Clomid. I read somewhere that Kate Gosselin took Clomid, which is enough of a reason to be cautious.

    Good luck to you!

  • I am on CD 9 and took 50mg of Clomid from CD 3-7.  Will have my first monitoring u/s on Monday and I'm hoping to see some response but keeping my expectations low as many don't respond to that dosage or don't respond at all.  I had no side effects for the 5 days I was taking it, but some dryness now.

do you have preseed?  We are using it as clomid often makes your CM dry up.  I wasn't able to find it in stores but bought it on amazon.

  • I'm cd6 of my second clomid cycle. 1 more "crazy" pill to go!

Cycle #1:  I took 50mg days 3-7.  I had a 2 follies over 20mm and my lining looked good.  Borderline progesterone level. BFN.

Cycle #2:  Taking 50mg days 3-7 again.  Adding an Ovidrel booster on day 1 of +OPK.  I O on my own and easily catch it on OPKs, so RE doesn't feel the need to trigger.

  • Hi!!! I just finished my first round of Clomid on Tuesday. I go in for my follow up ultrasound on Monday and if everything looks okay I'll have an Ovidrel shot and then take prometrium for a while (not sure how long yet). So I'm praying for great results on Monday so we can keep going with the process. I know this is my first time but I'm still hopeing for a positive outcome in the next few months. Were you just prescribed the Clomid or did your dr. combine it with other meds (Ovidrel, Prometrium, etc)??? I haven't bad too bad of side effects this round. Some mild cramping and a little dizzy at times but it hasn't been horrible. I have very irregular periods (40 - 55 days) so my dr. is hopeful that jump starting my ovulation so I'm not so irregular will do the trick...keeping my fingers crossed!!! Big Smile
