Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Is my baby huge or is there a sizing problem?

I cannot believe my dd is big enough to fit in 6mth pjs! She's almost 3mths and yes she's a chubster but she's not THAT big! Why don't they make them big enough? She wears mostly carters and target brand. Are there other brands that are true to size? The cost is not a problem since she mostly wears pjs so I'm getting my money's worth. Please say I'm not the only one with this problem.

Re: Is my baby huge or is there a sizing problem?

  • My DS is wearing some 3-6 months pjs right now and he is a little boy (just under 13lbs and 3.5 months). Plus some of his 0-3 month clothes are still a little big! Baby clothes sizes are always so weird!

  • Our LO was 9lbs 4oz and 21 1/2 inches at birth and only fit into his 0-3 mo clothing for the first 3 weeks or so.  He's fitting perfectly into 3-6 mo since 3 weeks, with the exception of all the stupid Gerber onesies...those seem to run super small (at least length-wise) so he's in 6-9 mo with those.  I think the fact that we cloth diaper makes his clothes a little more snug too b/c they're bulkier.  But, even in a disposable, he's been out of 0-3 since 4 weeks.  I thought our kid was just big, but maybe there is a sizing problem.

  • It's more length and the 6mth are big on her. The actual outfits she seems to be on track but the pjs are driving me crazy. Either too small or too big. They should have petite, regular or long sizes for babies..just saying big n tall babes need to look cute too:)
  • My little girl is in 3-6 mo pants and tops but she's not quite 3 mos yet- besides those Gerber onsesies! They run very small. She is also wearing 6 mo pants in some brands but all the 0-3 mo stuff is too small!

  • DD has been a moose since week 1...She has been steadily off the chart since her first check-up. At 4 mths she is wearing 6-9 mth clothing...my first was big so I spent no money on newborn clothes or diapers...we are already up to a size 3 now...

I think we are ready for size 3 diapers. She was huge at birth 7.9 but she's probably a good 15-16 lbs. now.

I meant to say WASN'T huge;)
  • We're in the opposite boat-- at 6 and a half weeks DD is still well within her NB clothes. DS is still in alot of his NB and a few of the 0-3 months.

Is she long? If she is...I've noticed we got some okie dokie brand as gifts (I think its from JC Penney) and the 0-3 month stuff is VERY long IMO.

Yes she's very long thanks I've never considered that brand:)
  • DS is 2 months old and is almost 2 feet long!

No footsie-onsies fit him length-wise (and foot length wise) except 6 month or 3-6 month...  Just about everything that people bought for him doesn't fit!

  • My two older kids always wore double the age they were. So at three months they wore 6-9 month size, at six months they were in 12 month size etc. Samuel seems to be following in their (large) footsteps.

    I have moose babies :)

  • I heard that most babies with the sizing are always at least a size ahead of where they actually are in age. We are hitting the 3 month mark and most of our three month clothes are fitting now or are getting to small... Even the clothes with the the weight and length info along with the size aren't all that accurate. I have noticed that even in the brands one 3 month outfit is huge while the other is already to small. Carters really seem to be that way.

  • I've found that Carters and Disney brands run a little small.  I found that Little Wonders (sold at Kohls and Sears) are pretty true to size.  Gymboree runs a bit big.

  • Your kid is big. You are not the only one with a big kid. It's normal. Some kids are small too. Perfectly normal as well. Sizing is a general guideline, not the end all be all to tell you how big your kid should be. Chill.

Same here. Carter will be 8 weeks tomorrow and he is stuffed into a 3 month sleeper right now. I think I need to start putting him in 3-6/6 month footed things...his feet *barely* fit in the 3 month...they never fit in newborn clothes. He was 8lbs 12oz and 22" when he was born, so he is a big boy, but we also run into the problem of clothes not being long enough.

But different brands definitely fit differently! He was in 3-6 month Gerber onesies before he was a month old. He could only wear newborn Carter's clothes for a week or two, but can still fit into some newborn Circo (Target) clothes. He is mostly wearing 3 month clothes, but is quickly growing out of 3 month Carter's stuff.

I'm not freaking out because she's big I'm annoyed about clothing sizes. I just think they should have more options. I'm quite happy with her chunk.

I think you misunderstand the sizing method.  If your baby is nearly 3 mo, then 6 mo clothing is really the correct size age-wise.  The 6 mo means that most babies will outgrow that size clothing BY 6 mo.

And most clothing for babies comes in the exact same styles for Newborn, 0-3, 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12 mo.  So you could always go rebuy the same clothes.
