DD will be 3 years and 4 months when "the sequel" arrives. She rides in the stroller occasionally. We have a Bugaboo Frog, which was a gift, for our neighborhood walks and a reclining umbrella stroller for out and about when she needs it. I used a soft structured carrier with her until she was past two. Oh, and we also have a snap'n'go.
We could get by without a double (I think?) but I've heard it is common for older kids to want to do "baby stuff" when siblings arrive. I also think that if MIL or someone was watching both kids it would be easier to have the option of a double. If we get a double it has to be the kind the goes back to being a single.
So, do I try to sell my Bugaboo for $300ish on Craigslist and put the funds towards a Baby Jogger City Select w/ a second seat? We don't have a garage so if we get something new the Bugaboo has to go.
Re: Should I get a double stroller for DD and the baby?
DS will be a month shy of 3 when this munchkin arrives.
Currently, DS is a "darter" and I prefer to keep him contained at all times. Malls around here are super crowded and we also walk around D.C. a lot. We're buying a double stroller for our own sanity.
I can only base what I say on my opinion and my experience with young kids which is limited. My nephew is a tad over 3 and will not ride in a stroller. Occassionally a shopping cart if he has a toy to play with while he sits. So I would say NO. Don't waste your money to buy a new one. She will be getting too old for that.
I also can understand an older sibling wanting to do baby stuff, but I don't know that I would let them. I know somethings you just can't avoid, but I would encourage her to be the "big girl" and let baby be baby.
At this age I think she would jump off and run away! LOL. Keeping up with her on foot at this age stresses me out. She does NOT hold hands and goes in the opposite direction of the dog, when we walk, at all times. She's better in stores though...6 months makes such a big difference and I have zero experience with kids ages 3 & up so I don't know what to expect. I just don't want to add selling and buying a stroller to my post partum to do list.
That's why we wound up getting a regular double. Audrey was a little younger when #2 was born and I knew there was no way it would work. I have friends who love their sit and stands, though, so I thought I'd throw it out there. We have the Graco Quattro Tour Duo and I love it, but Audrey's never minded riding in the stroller.
