Has anyone started a private FB local group? I'm curious because I belong to one but most of the ladies on there are out of state; there are few locals.

i like the idea too...have no idea how to go about doing it....though have a feeling that people would veer towards that instead of the nest/bump
this. i like the idea but i'm hesitant.
i had a super awesome BMB and after someone created a FB group, a bunch of ladies left the bump entirely. it sucks because i'm not part of the FB group (there were some dramaz surrounding the creation of it so i just stayed out) and a number of other ladies don't have FB at all so we pretty much lost touch with a lot of nice gals who never come back to visit the bump to visit.
I'm in another FB group related to one of the Bump boards. It did cut down on posts on the particular Bump board, but the other women and I in the FB group (about 200 of us) have become pretty close (ok, not all 200--but a bunch of us).
I'd love to be in, but can't facebook at work at all (I'm a teacher) but I can at least bump during planning and breaks if I have time. I'd love to check in at night too though I guess.
Being on FB takes some of the anonymity out of the boards. I've FB friends with many DC Nesties/Bumpies, but I don't know if I'd want everyone on here to have my full name and personal info. That's my only hesitation.

Ditto.
Well, not my *only* hesitation. I can't FB from work, so I wouldn't really be able to be as active on a FB group as here anyway.
I'm on the FB group for August 2011 (my birth month group) but my privacy settings are set so that no one can actually see anything on my page without being a direct 'friend'. If the sharing of information is a concern, just make sure your settings are set that only friends can see your information and you should be ok.
I'd be interested in joining a FB group if there is one as i'm just trying to form a new support network here in MD.

Same. I know you can adjust your security settings, but I'm still trying to maintain a degree of anonymity on tb/tn. I only really interact with people on FB that I've met and know IRL.

I'm sort of in the same boat. Regardless of whether you have your Facebook page set to private, when you join a private group, people will still see your full name and your profile photo. As we know, once people have your full name and know the general area where you live (DC Area), they can easily find out a lot of information about you.
The other challenge that comes up is policing the group. Who decides who gets to be added and what are the criteria for being added?
I'm not trying to be a naysayer but I've been part of a few internet forums that have run into problems. I've also seen a number of instances where people were personally harrassed from people who they used to be eFriends with on the internet. So, I'm just a little bit wary. I really like this board and the women here (even though I don't even know some of your first names). I've also become FB friends with a few of the people that I've met IRL so I am able to stay in touch with those specific people on FB (but at least I am choosing who has information on me).
Anyway, just wanted to put my two cents in of why I'm a bit wary of it.
Re: FB Group
While I'm friends with a lot of DC locals, I don't think there's a "group"....
Good idea, though. Maybe we should start one.
I'd volunteer but unfortunatly the only time I can do it is at work and FB is blocked; I can get through my iPhone but you can only do so much.

OK, the group is set up.
If you'd like to join, e-mail dcbumpies@groups.facebook.com
The group is "secret" - so no one except for other group members will see what you post.
Also, you don't have to be FB friends with the people who are in the group if you don't want to.
We can share documents, details about GTGs, etc. in a less public forum.
