LGBT Parenting

Stupid people.

We've been pretty lucky so far with the dumba+s comments from folks- either multiple or queer related- until last sunday.

We had to go to an event for my work, an LGBT wedding expo, so we brought the kids. As we were hanging out outside and letting E run around, this guy (presumably gay) came out the door, and this is the conversation:

"Whose biological children are they?"

I was taken so off guard I couldnt answer. Wifey did, she's more patient than me. Then he said "So, you did inSPERMination?" Again, I was flabbergasted, and she answered.

Then....he turns to me, "So, they aren't yours." Not as a question, but a statement.

He continued on, but I turned and walked away, because I was technically working and work in the LGBT community so I couldnt start screaming like I wanted to.

What have you said to folks who are clearly idiots and invasive and arent asking because they care, but are just being nosy.

  • A$$hat.

We've had a few of those dumba$$ comments over the years. I don't want my kids to see me get riled about it so I just say, "They have 2 moms. We are both their moms." and leave it at that. I don't feel the need to justify who has a biological connection to the boys or how they were conceived unless we are talking to friends or someone who has a genuine need/desire to know.

    "Whose biological children are they?"

Answer: "Yours," followed by a maddeningly benevolent smile. Watch him run away FAST.

I actually answered "You are" to someone who asked who NOSILY asked who J's "biological father" was. Not another word out of the a$$bat's mouth.

  • I'm putting this in my arsenal.  I kind of can't wait to use it someday.
  • I cant believe how ignorant people can be. I'm still shock by random people asking such personal questions.

  • Is it bad to hope for a guy to ask us that now that you have provided the perfect response?  Nice work TDMKLM!

I have not been asked yet. Unrelated, but it reminds me of the stupid a## questions people ask trans people.  Makes me wanna ask them back - so have you had surgery?  What do you have?  Idiots.  Seriously.  And for that matter (uh-oh here we go) let's ask ignorant people who ask about where our kids came from where THEIRS came from.....sorry, not really....but same concept and you never really DO know.  OK, off the soapbox and back to my job.
