C-sections

Tubes tied during c-section?

Right after the baby is born? Has here anyone done this? I want to but would like to hear from those who have been there and done that. TIA:)

Re: Tubes tied during c-section?

  • I haven't BTDT, but I know a few people who did. They preferred it that way so they wouldn't have to have another surgery.

  • It is something my OB and I have discussed. It's a possibility for me.

  • Just keep in mind that if you are delivering at a Catholic hospital they won't do it.

  • My sister had it done and she was very happy to have the option. It worked well for her.

  • I'm doing it this time. We don't want more children and I figure I'm already open so might as well get it done at the same time.

  • I'll be getting mine done with my c-section, like PPs have said, I'm already going to be open so might as well get it done.

^^Yep. I considered having it done, but the decision was made for me since the hospital I had her at wouldn't do it since it's a Catholic hospital.

  • I am also talking this over with my DR.  She says it is a very good idea if you are not wanting anymore children, takes care of two things at once and we know that this is the last one for us =)

  • Thank you all so much, I need to find out whats involved with ins. and then it's on!:)
  • I had one right after they took DD out. It only took a couple of extra minutes. I had a vaginal birth with DS, so I don't know if it added any time to my recovery (nothing to compare it too).

  • I had it done, my whole surgery was a breeze. 15 min. long from start to finish.  no extra pain/recovery time than my c-sect. with #1.  my insurance covered it 100%.

Check with your OB - this is not always the case, in many cases there is a work around to this scenario based on the hospital.

  • I had this done in January.  It added nothing to the surgery time or recovery time.  I was glad it was an option so that I did not have to make time to get it done later.

This was my second child-  they are 14 years apart. I am 40yo and decided not to rely on hormonal birth control anymore since this baby was a result of failure of the BC.

  • I am not a regular poster but I thought since there wasn't many posts from people who actually did it I thought I would comment. I did opt for it and am very happy with my decision. One, it does save you from any additional surgeries. This was my second C section. The incision was considerably larger. I think I had 16 staples. I also had some bruising on both hips because the have to kind of "dig" around in there. Recovery wasn't any worse, just a little more sore the first day or so.

  • I had it done and am so glad I did.  No ill effects whatsoever.  Unlike PP my incision was actually smaller this time, though.
