Trouble TTC

Anyone else have a retroverted uterus/Endo? Advice pretty please..

I went to see my doctor for pain I have been having...we both suspected Endo as a possibility. When he did an exam he found that I have a tilted/retoverted uterus. He said its a normal anotomical variation in about 20% of women...just take ibuprofen for my pain and come back and see him in 6 months if I am still in pain and not pregnant by then. Indifferent He said there isnt much he can do about the pain and sex..well, it will hurt but he cant tell me to stop doing it if we are TTC...genious.

I told him I dont think I can hold out that long, the pain is pretty bad (my list matched up with Endo sypmtoms to the T)...he said okay, if in THREE months its still bad, come see him. He will put me on BCP's for 3 months then take me off, wait three months and if I STILL have the pain THEN he will do a Lap. He said he did think it could be Endo, there is a possibility, but he doesnt want to "jump the gun" and do a lap now.

Imagine my confusion and frustration....just "deal" with this pain, try bcp's and deal some more....?! thats nine months of waiting.....I emailed another dr. for a second opinion. Does he not get we are TTC?......maybe I am overreacting...what would you ladies do??

I will also add, I have PCOS and have only had 2 periods since our loss in July and no O at all....

  • Are you seeing an RE??  How long have you been TTC?? I have both endo and a tilted uterus and my OB didn't seem to care too much about it. When I had my first appt w/ RE and I explained all my symptoms he immediately suggested a lap. He didn't feel comfortable moving forward w/ treatment until he knew exactly what was going on. 9 months seems like an excessive amount of time to wait, IMO. After my lap and HSG my RE recommended we move directly to IVF due to the amount and that my tubes are blocked from it.

It would def. get a second opinion!

    TTC since 1/10
    First RE appt 5/11
    Dx w/ Stage IV Endo
    IVF #1 July/Aug 2011. Long lupron protocol ER 8/8 ET 8/11 = BFN
IVF #2 - Postponed due to cyst/endo. Lap scheduled for 9/11

  • I also have a tilted uterus and endo.

I would advise working directly with a RE. My OB/GYN always discredited my painful periods. She would do a pelvic exam, feel my ovaries moving freely and say, "Nope, no endo." Well, after my lap in December, we confirmed that I did, in fact, have stage II endo.

I agree with your doc that BCPs will help with the pain and can slow the progression of endo, but you may still wind up needing a lap to 1.) confirm it is endo and 2.) remove whatever endo they can. An RE will probably start you out with a HSG to see if your tubes are open and to check the shape of your uterus. GL!

FWIW - My RE said that a lot of his patients with a tilted uterus also have endo. He said there isn't a lot of evidence supporting this, it's just a pattern he noticed.

    TTC 12/2009
Me: 32 - Stage II Endo / DH: 36 - Low count and morphology (1%)
IUIs 1-3 BFN, lap Dec. 2010, IUIs 4-6 BFN
    IVF w/ICSI #1 - ER 2/8: 24R 19M 9F ET 2/13 2-5 day blasts (no frosties) = BFP - b/g twins!

We have been TTC since 11/10 but since we did get pregnant this May but had a missed miscarriage in July at 11 wks 4 days...my OBGYN said they still dont consider me "infertile" since I did get pregnant. Even though I can go months without ovulating and have a cycle ever 6 weeks....Technically its been a year since we started trying but we had the pregnancy in between so...he isnt going to count it a full year until a year from our loss goes by with no other pregnancy...its all very frustrating...thanks for your input. I think I can see and RE if we want to though since I have a diagnosis of PCOS (anovulation etc)...thanks!

I have endo and a tilted uterus.  They weren't the causes of my IF, though.  I will say, the main symptom I had was painful sex (both during and after).  It was terrible!  My OB did a lap even thought at the time, we hadn't been TTC for a year.  The painful sex and TTC was enough.  Besides, my OB does not allow NSAIDs while TTC.  Ibuprofen was a no no according to her.  Anyhow, having the endo removed during the lap did aliviate the pain for several months.  But, it started coming back in less than a year.  However, it may have come back quicker because of the infertility treatments.

I'd definitely get a second opinion.  Good luck!

  • I have endo and a tilted uterus.  There is no reason you need to continue to be in so much pain.  You need to see a new doctor.
