Train Museum in Sac question

We're finally taking Lucas to the train museum this weekend.  He's going to go crazy!  We're taking Amtrak up there.  Are there any family friendly restaurants for lunch within walking distance of the museum/train station?

Re: Train Museum in Sac question

  • The museum is in "old town," which is a tourist attraction and therefore almost all the restaurants are family friendly.  The downtown mall is also just through a pedestrian tunnel and there are options there (brewery, food court, etc.).

  • There are lots of touristy things in Old Town- there's a joe's crab shack and a few chain-y type places (round table, etc).  Our favorite lunch spot post-train museum is Fanny Ann's, beware though it is pretty dive-y from the on-set!  When you walk in it looks like a biker bar (ok, it kind of is a biker bar)  but go to the back and order food at the window- GREAT burgers and reasonably priced.  They have a fun upstairs area with more kid-appropriate seating, my boys and I love to go there, plus they have good beer on draft for the parents to enjoy!

Yguys are going to love it!  It's fun to walk down by the river and see the Tower Bridge, and the excursion train ride is well worth it, although if you're riding on Amtrack you're already getting your riding in.

    Have fun!  Yay Sacramento!

  • There is a Johnny Rockets in the mall right there. I take E there all the time and while it can be a bit tight with a stroller, it is still totally doable. They never get mad either. E loves their fries. Her first real table food was their fries because she grabbed one off my plate.
  • The only places we've eaten nearby are the hotdog stand near the excursion train station (which was spendy but fine) and the Embassy Suites where we stayed last time.  Joe's Crab Shack has a nice location on the river though and we eyed it for some future visit.  When we go DS is unilaterally uninterested in food -- it is train train train and more train until he passes out in a pile of goo.
