SUCH an idiot!

Ugh!

I was just re-enrolling DH and I in our benefits for 2012.  I checked our balance for our FSA account for 2011 and there's still $2000 in there!  I forgot that we enrolled for so much this year but then I remembered that we were hoping to cycle by the end of this year and now that we definitely won't be, we're going to be out $2000 if I don't find a way to spend it.

DH suggested I get new Rx glasses/sunglasses but I just got two pairs last year - I really don't need two brand new pairs again.  How else can I spend $2000 for medical purposes in a month and a half?

UGH - I'm such an idiot!!! Super Angry

Re: SUCH an idiot!

  • i hope you can spend it.

i would get new sunglasses :)

and maybe go to dentist, get teeth whitening?

i have no idea what's covered, can you use it for copays, RX's, if you know you are going to cycle can you get your meds now?

  • Ah crap, that sucks.  This is my fear and exactly why I didn't do my FSA this year like I was debating.

I would start getting weekly accupuncture treatments from now until the end of the year.  Also, I hear some plans offer flexibility and let you use it until March the follwoing year, double check on that.

Also, stock up on any and all medicines at the store, humidifier's etc... Maybe you can buy extra humidifiers and sell on e-bay, j/k...

    Good luck!!

  • I'm usually really good with staying on top of it (I worked in benefits for 12 years so it was always on my mind) but this year it just escaped me.

I like Worms idea of buying my meds early...maybe I can get in with my RE before the end of the year and get a feel for what she might put me on once we're ready to cycle.  I can also buy a ton of HPTs and maybe fit in some accupuncture.  If all else fails, I guess I'll get another pair of Rx sunglasses.

I also think I can submit my WW membership fee for the year which will take care of about $400.

    Ugh...what a hassle!

    These are great ideas!

I was in a similar situation a few years ago and wound up buying a new humidifier for the winter as well as stocked up on cold/flu medicines so we had them handy and didn't have to run out to the store AFTER we were sick.

Unfortunately, OTCs are no longer eligible for reimbursement (since 2010) unless a Dr. prescribes them.  I have no need to have anything prescribed, so that's out (otherwise I would run to BJs and stock up!)  I like the humidifier thought though - are there any $2000 models out there?  Wink

We already have a treadmill collecting dust in the basement and unfortunately gym memberships are no longer reimbursable.  Sad

I'll definitely join the WW check-in though!  I'm starting tonight...again.  Seriously, this is like my 8th time restarting the program (but I've been paying my membership fee every month.) Confused

Lots of love and luck to my PAIF/3T/IF Veteran ladies, especially my dear friend Zookie. Congrats to Papps, Teach84 and Starbuck on their little ones.
  • My insurance covered all ivf meds in full with only a $20 co pay per med. It was going to run out. I asked my RE for follistim and menopur, even though I had2 frozen cycles in front of me before starting another fresh cycle. When I told her why, she wrote me the script. Maybe if you speak to your RE personally, that a good way to spend 2 grand.
  • As an unethical approach what about buying lots of humidifiers and then returning them...then you can get your money back.  I don't know if this would work since we don't have FSA's in Canada, but just a thought.

Otherwise, I would definitely see if you can get your meds for your next cycle.
