Haunted houses while pregnant?

My DH and I have tickets to go to Pennhurst Asylum (one of the most haunted places on the east coast) this weekend. We bought them before we found out I was pregnant and spent quite a bit on them. I was just wondering if it was safe for me to go given that they use strobe lights, etc. One night of fun is NOT worth loosing my baby over. I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about this.

Re: Haunted houses while pregnant?

  • I think it will be fine.

Strobe lights aren't a danger to pregnancy unless you have an underlying seizure disorder.

Provided you don't freak out, run away, and fall down a flight of stairs or something like that, I don't see a problem with going. I went a bunch of haunted houses in the week following my BFP and I had a blast!

  • I wouldn't go - I've heard it compared to a roller coaster. I don't know how accurate that is but I wouldn't take the risk.

By the way, did you get married in May Kristen? I think I remember your SN - you kind of moved everything at the last minute and then had your wedding at the same place as one of the other knotties? Or am I crazy?

  • if the July Moms ever get as snotty as I see the first trimester board get (mostly from the women who have no business there since they already had their babies!) I think I'll lose faith in you guys and have to leave.  Which sucks since I like it here, so please lets not do that!

With that said,  I think I'd skip it.  I'd be afraid someone would freak out into me, or shove me or whatever.  I'm also not a fan of haunted houses (I'm a total G-Disney wimp!) so there's that too.

  • i am also amazed that this is a question.

however, if this is giving you that much anxiety, i'd skip it for your own mental health.

If the Stupid here ever gets as bad as 1st Tri, I'm out too. Wink So far, so good.

Agree with PP, while I don't think you have to step out, if its stressing you out, then don't go.  Happy mama = happy baby

  • I think a lot of haunted houses have disclaimers saying not to go if you're pregnant. I would call them and ask.
  • I went to a haunted house the night before my BFP, and I'm still pregnant.

I think the key here is your stress level. If you like this sort of thing and it won't have you in a stressed, panicked state all night, then you should be fine. If you're going to be scared out of your mind and stressed all night, then I would skip it.

It's not like other theme park rides or roller coasters, which are problematic due to rapid direction changes/ erratic movements that can cause miscarriage.

No kidding!  I once posted on the nest 'trying to get pregnant' blog when I had a false positive using a pink dye test and most responses were super bitchy calling me stupid for believing two lines meant positive.  People are harsh...I'm just going to stick to this bored!

That being said-I disagree.  If your ok going I would go and have fun.  The peanut is pretty well protected in there.  I also like the other post about calling ahead.
