Hi, i'm 10 weeks today and I am craving tuna!!! I brought some chunk light tuna + mayo, about a can. I've heard so many bad things about tuna so I wanna make sure it's safe to eat it, any advice?
OMG!!! I am SO excited right now! I have been craving a tuna sub (with pickles!!) for weeks, and I was too afraid to eat it. Thank you for posting that link, I feel so much better. Guess what's for dinner tonight!?!?
Since tuna is a fairly good source of natural DHA, I'm all for eating it occasionally. While albacore has more DHA, it also has more mercury, so I've been eating the chunk light when I have a craving. Since the mercury content can vary a lot though, I've been staying away from eating a lot of it so I don't have a situation where I eat several high mercury portions in a row but occasionally seems perfectly safe from all the studies I've seen.
Have you tried canned salmon to make salmon salad instead of tuna? It tastes stronger but you get the omega-3 without the high mercury content. I've been trying to alternate between tuna and salmon as much as possible.
I love tuna salad. I have cut back to one sandwich/sub a week or every week and a half. When I make it, I buy the chunk light, not the chunk white, which has a bit more mercury.
