My husband and I live in Amelia (eastern Clermont County) and are starting to look for a daycare center for when LO is born in Feb. Any recommendations are appreciated - prefer to stay in Amelia or Eastgate area.
My best advice is to visit a variety of centers and send an email with your questions.
I also found this searching website very helpful for state reports. https://www.odjfs.state.oh.us/cdc/query.asp Something to keep in mind is that many centers have violations- some are for ticky tack things, but others are for things that are certainly not ok.
I've heard great things about the Little Red Schoolhouse, and I really liked it when I toured it. I didn't send C there because I didn't take to job that was nearby.
My only advice is to go without them knowing you are coming. This way you get to see how things are on a normal day. We have O in a LIttle Red Schoolhouse on our side of the town and we love it.

While I understand the reasoning for showing up unannounced I have to say it isn't always the best idea. I work at a very small center and we don't always have someone posted at the desk waiting for unannounced tours. The receptionist has other duties such as helping prepare snack, covering breaks for teachers, and picking up after-school kids. We are not going to allow a drop-in to tour unless we can give them the attention and time they deserve. Also, we don't want people stopping in during naptime because it is disruptive to the kids who are resting. If you want to surprise a center at least give them a call and ask for some sort of time frame when it would be good to stop in.
Check ODJFS site for centers near you and make appointments to see the ones you're interested in. Sometimes you just get a feeling right away on if it is a good match for you when you visit in person. Good luck with your search!
Glad to hear so many happy with the Little Red Schoolhouse. Our son will start there in March. One thing about them, they don't take infants until 12 weeks (at least the one in Richwood) - we LOVED the teacher and facility though.
You'll know when you've found "the one". DH walked out and looked at each other and said "yep, that's it!"
I am also in Amelia, and there just isn't a great selection. We toured Jelly Bean, and it was nice and clean and everybody was friendly, and it was our favorite that was in our price range. We just decided to try and not use a day care and we work opposite each other now. Child tender reminded me of a barn because the rooms reminded me of horse stalls (long and skinny). Also DON'T go to Angels at play. We pulled up just to get papers or brief info and saw a kid through the front window (about preschool age) with a kitchen garbage bag over his head and another kid kicking him. A teacher was loading her car and stopped and make the kid quit kicking him but didn't take the bag away. We still went in, but the place was kind of dumpy. I hear great things about Goddard, but SOOO IS NOT in our budget, so we didn't even go in.
Hi! We live in Amelia as well and our little guy goes to Little Red Schoolhouse in Eastgate. We cannot say enough great things about them. They have the same great track record as Goddard, but so much more affordable. Bethany runs a tight ship, and the teachers love their kids and take such good care of them.
