So, my DS who is 3 1/2 mos old is my 3rd child and I am just now wanting to try CD. It seems like they have come a long way and I have 2 in diapers right now, so very $$. My older one in diapers should potty train soon though!
My question is what is best? It looks like there are all in one diapers, covers with prefolds, etc...So what is best? Also where are the best deals? I will wash every 2days, so how many do I need? (just going to diaper baby) Thanks for helping!!
Re: Completley clueless..new to this and need help on best CD choice!
There's a review sheet linked in my siggy.
The thing about "best" is that it's a matter of preference. Lots and lots of brands are perfectly functional, and what works depends on what fits and what you like. It's like buying shoes or jeans for yourself.
I use mostly Kawaii pockets (because they were inexpensive) and bought some hemp to use at night and when I need more absorbancy. The microfiber has not been any problem for us.
You could do a trial from a store like Jillian's Drawers to see what you like.

We use Softbums and they are an all-in-2 diaper. I really really like them. Check out their website, www.softbums.com they also have an awesome info section and videos.
You could also do the trial from Jillian's Drawers to see what you like too...
I'm pretty new to the cloth diapering world as well and this is what I have discovered with my 2 month old...
The diapers that I like the best are the pocket diapers. I have found Rumparooz, BumGenius, and TotsBots to be my favorite. I prefer the snaps for the Rumparooz and BumGenius (mainly because the velcro seems to ware out easily) and I really like the velcro for the TotsBots which is super strong. The velcro makes it nice for the late night diaper changes. I have found the majority of my diapers used which is nice on the pocket book. I've bought mainly from Jillian's Drawers and Diaper Junction both of which have trial programs. Jillian's Drawers also allows you to return used items which is helpful. As far as how many diapers are needed I currently have 18 in my stash and I wash every other day, and that seems to be the right amount, but I probably will add a few more. HTH
Honestly, You won't know that is best for you until you try a few. I'd recommend buying a few different diapers and trying them out for a bit -- can get used in a variety of places (this board, the swap spot here in TB, diaperswappers, hyenacart, retailers' used section, etc.) so you can try them out for a reasonable price.
Personally, I really love GroVia hybrid diapers right now. I go through phases with diapers... started with PF and covers, then went to pockets and AIOs, then to another hybrid system, then to wool and fitteds, and we've been in GroVias for about 6 months and I'm still really happy with them.
I know that isn't a huge help. Sorry and good luck finding what you like!
