We are in the market for a new laptop but I have no idea where to start. We have always been a PC family, but I would love to switch over to a Mac. I'm just worried that I won't like it since it's not what I'm used to.
The MacBook Air looks amazing but it doesn't have a CD/DVD drive. Would I miss this?
Any input? Thanks ladies!
Re: NBR: Rec your laptop! Mac or PC?
i have a 15" macbook pro at work and love it. as soon as my 2005 12" powerbook g4 dies, i'm getting myself a macbook pro for home - maybe the 13" so it's easier for travel.
i personally would miss the CD/DVD drive on the Air because i have a ton of old photos and music on CD/DVD that i'd like to eventually rip and transfer over to an external hard drive. i also don't know about the USB port on those things - last version of the Air that i saw had a flip out USB port.
You can buy a CD/DVD drive for it. You just plug it into the USB and its very easy and its not too expensive. That said, I only use it when I buy pics from a photog and need to load them from the DVD.
I could not love our MB Air more. I LOVE it. Its everything a computer should be and its well worth the money. It goes from dead to start in 7 seconds. Its crazy fast.
Make the switch. You won't regret it.
You know what they say. Once you go Mac, you never go back.
My MacBook has a CD/DVD drive. That I neverever use.
(read it. you know you want to.)

Switch. Doooooooooooooo itttttttttttttt.
I've got a MBP that I bought refurbed direct from Apple and it was WAY cheaper than a brand new one. I was looking at the Air, too, but I opted to go the most budget friendly since I had to buy a ton of other stuff. Plan to purchase new software (if what you have isn't already Mac compatible) and a new external hard drive.
+1. I actually like that we don't have a CD/DVD drive on it b/c it makes it that much lighter. When we need a dvd option, we just plug it in. Easy peasy.
I make out w/ mine a few times a day.
I have an Air, hubs has a Pro, and my old regular macbook is now our media center. We
Apple. I was worried about making the change because I am very proficient in Windows but you just don't need to be a geek to use a Mac like you do with a PC. After a few hours you'll have it mostly figured out.
The only time I've ever needed a DVD drive was when I installed Photoshop Elements, and there's a way to use another networked computer's dvd drive like it's your own. We back up everything onto either networked attached storage or external hard drives via USB.
