TTC after 35

question about opk and early pregnancy

So this month we BD on day 8_14 basing it on last month I o'd on day 11. So today is day 21. I used an opk the last 3 days and all were negative. I figured I already o'd. The past two days I have had faint cramping and today even though I didn't get the smiley there was a faint second line where u attach it. Now the kit says to ignore the lines and only look for the smiley. When I checked my cm today it felt sort of swollen and "full" down there. I can't think of a better way to describe it. Has anyone else had these symptoms? I just wonder if it means anything.

Re: question about opk and early pregnancy

  • I'm afraid I don't understand why you are using an opk if what you are trying to figure out is if you are pregnant or not, which I assume is what you are doing.  OPKs do pick up the pregnancy hormone, but the only way to know for sure is to go get an HPT or, even better, a blood test.  But it would be very very early indeed to get a positive HPT at this point.  The OPKs are telling you to go by the smiley face because we always have *some* LH in our systems, and it's only at certain levels (i.e., on a digital, enough to trigger the smiley) that it means anything.

Not to be rude, but I think I should also point out that this is a board full of women who are trying to get pregnant.  Some of them have been pregnant before and will be able and perhaps willing to answer your questions about symptoms.  But some of them never have, and for them you should be aware that it can be kind of hurtful to be effectively asked "am I pregnant" by someone who is relatively new here, when they have been posting for years about their unsuccessful attempts. That doesn't mean you aren't welcome here. But we have all had "phantom" symptoms, so we can't tell you if what you are experiencing means anything or not for sure.  You just have to go get a pregnancy test.

    Best of luck to you.
