I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I never started doing any of them and now I don't know how or why. I'm sure it's something awesome I'm missing, since everyone else does, but I don't know how to start.
Most sites that publish articles/blog posts on a regular basis will have an RSS feed. You can use this RSS feed to consolidate multiple sites into one place (your reader - ie Google Reader) and easily read these sites without have to visit each site individually.
For google reader, you usually just have to plug in the web address (in the 'subscribe' bar of Google Reader) and it will search for the RSS feed for you but if not, look for the RSS Feed directly on the site (usually this guy ) and you can subscribe that way.
I like Google Reader because I can organize everything into categories (Friends, Celebrity Gossip, Home Decor, etc.) and read only what I want to. It does get overwhelming sometimes if you have lots of subscriptions - I have almost 400 subscriptions and can easily have 1000+ "articles" to read if I don't keep up with it - but I really like having all my reading in one place as opposed to having to visit each site separately.
another option, if you use firefox, is to use live bookmarks. you can just bookmark an RSS feed and put the bookmark in your toolbar. then you click on the bookmark and it expands to show you the titles of all the most recent articles/entries on that site and you can click directly to it. like right now, my cnn bookmark is showing:
