Anyone have a house cleaner?
How often do they come?
I'm considering getting one for after my mom leaves to come once a month to do a deeper clean of the house.
However, my next door neighbor (whom we are very friendly with) is a house keeper and I would feel really awkward not hiring her, but equally awkward hiring her....

Re: s/o housekeeping
We do. And thank goodness for her. We've had the same person help us for years now -- given our work schedules there is little chance we'd have had a presentable house for the past few years without her help.
Pre-baby she came twice a month, and since the baby arrived she has come weekly to help with laundry, etc. and to tidy up after us while I get on the comeback trail post-csection. Given my sluggish recovery, I don't know what we would have done without this help.
I scoffed when DH proposed pre-baby having her come weekly after delivery, and now I am so glad he did. This will end soon enough, but for now I am so thankful.
I'd have a hard time using a neighbor for this work as well -- seeing our dirty laundry literally and figuratively -- good luck with your decision.

Motherhood is not for wimps
I do not have a housecleaner, but I wish I did. DH has given the approval for someone to come 1x a month or so, but we haven't done anything beyond that.
I would not hire my next door neighbor to clean my house. I think that would be weird and super personal.
Keep your eye out on sites like Groupon or LivingSocial, they seem to have cleaners on there pretty regularly. My SIL recommends Green Maidworks, they've been on LivingSocial a couple of times.
Ha! I wish.
I'm the housekeeper and right now, I'm seriously slacking on the job. But I did just have my gallbladder taken out so I'm taking some much needed FMLA from my housekeeping responsibilities.
I don't. I SAH and we have a small place, it would be silly to have one... though, a girl can dream.
I think you could ask your neighbor if she is available, she might already have a full plate, but I would still ask.

Oh really hard call. Do you think she'd even want to blur the line either?
Idk. I remember a couple of years ago another neighbor hired a cleaner and cleaner neighbor was put out. Other neighbor explained to her that it would be weird to have her clean when we all have dinner at her house every Sunday night...

I don't have one but REALLY want one for a similar thing as you, once a month deep cleaning that we don't do nearly often enough.
Tough call on the neighbor. I wouldn't want a close friend being my house cleaner. It sounds like if you don't go with her, then you should be upfront about it and why. Hopefully she would understand.
