Has anyone successfully BFed with a toddler running around? I keep hearing how hard it's going to be to nurse LO #2 with LO #1 getting into everything. Any tips/suggestions welcome! Thanks.
Babyproof your main living area and you'll be fine. DD1 wasn't able to escape our living room, so there was very minimal trouble that she could cause. Sure, she would occasionally throw at tantrum while I was BFing, but as long as she couldn't get hurt, I wasn't worried. I just made sure that DD1 had a snack and drink before I started nursing. Nursing in public can be a little more challenging, but totally doable. I've chased DD1 around the playground, while nursing DD2 (used a nursing cover). You learn to adapt quickly. I love my Ergo and we purchased a Best Chair off of their Storytime Series. It's a super comfy glider/recliner that is wide enough to nurse in and have a toddler sit next to you.
My boys are 15 1/2 months apart. I nursed DS2 until he was 12 weeks then I pumped unti lhe was 6 months. The first 12 weeks were not hard really. I sometimes had to put Mickey on the tv for the 30 mintues but usually DS1 just read books and played like usual. Once DS2 turned 12wks through he was easily distracted so that's why I started pumpling only. It was just easier for me.
Ditto PPs. Everything baby-proofed with lots of choices for activities. Coloring is a big one here. Luckily, DD is quite independent and happily entertains herself. If not, Elmo's World always does the trick.
so i've never tried it, but I've heard it really works... try nursing in a sling. I guess its handsfree, and once you get the hang of it, you can walk around. that may help.
It is working for us - #2 is 8 weeks and #1 is 18 months. I try to nurse as much as possible when #1 is asleep or someone else is around. Also I often nurse while #1 is in his high chair eating. If these things are not possible, I read to #1 and get him to play with his cars or blocks. It really is smoother than I expected. Good luck!

I plan to BF this baby. Maddie will be 20 months when he is born.
My plan? Have the entire house completely baby-proofed, and avoid going anywhere in the beginning! lol
Thankfully, DS will be born in February, so we'll be stuck inside anyway.
