"Leap Pad Explorer Learning Tablet"

Santa is getting my niece this for christmas (he told me!)

Elf Aunt Strug wants to get some games or whatever goes along with this....any suggestions?

Re: "Leap Pad Explorer Learning Tablet"

  • We have the explorer (pre tablet but the games are the same).

Maggie loves Tangled, Mr. Pencil and Pet Pals 2 the best.  Your niece is closer to 3 right?  Pet Pals is great for the younger set, they can do a lot in the game and there is learning as well.  Tangled is a bit older with letter and spelling games in it but it has a wide range of things too.  Mr. Pencil is for practicing writing letters.

She also has Toy Story, but that one has a lot of adding and number and logic games that are a little old for Maggie now but she still enjoys it.  We also have this pop-up Cinderella and Belle one - it more reads a story with a few little games.  Maggie likes it but it seems like less game for your buck. I have heard good things about the Dora game but we don't have it.

I would also suggest an app card - the tablet has downloadable 'apps' that are smaller games or videos.  It is $20 but you usually find it for less on amazon. This is where they can download smaller games (Maggie loves her cooking one), books and videos (the Letter Factory and Word Factory are great).  LeapFrog is working to get more and more apps together and the new ones look fun and promising so this makes a great addition, even though I think the apps are overpriced in general, buying the card a little cheaper from amazon helps - I have gotten it for as low as $16 during non holiday times.

Just make sure you buy games that say Explorer or LeapPad on them.  Ones that are for just "Leapster" or "Leapster 2" are older versions of the system. Your niece is getting the LeapPad so look for that or Explorer (games are interchangeable between systems).

Wow, time does fly!  I knew she was younger than Maggie but I thought it was more (Maggie just turned 4 in August and she got the Explorer for her birthday).

  • We also have the Explorer (pre-tablet) and DD #1 has the Disney Princess one and the Mr. Pencil one.  She like both.
Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.
