TTC After a Loss

Exercise post-D&C

My doctor gave me pretty vague guidelines for everything after the D&C--he said no sex for three weeks, but everything else was on a "listen to your body and don't overdo it."

My D&C was a week ago.  Since then I've had brown spotting, not very heavy, except for a few incidents where it was a little bit heavier.

This morning I went back to CrossFit for the first time.  Physically, I felt normal, but during the workout, I started bleeding heavier (still brown) than I have since the surgery.  It seems to have stopped already.  I didn't have any cramping or pain, and I scaled down to use weights that were comfortable rather than challenging.

Would you take that as a sign that I need to slow down and give it a few more days?  I want to go again tomorrow and Friday--emotionally it felt really good to work out some of the anger.

  • I was told no strenuous exercise for 2 weeks. I was hoping they would have said sooner, but my doctor was very adamant about it.

    I'd probably say to just take it easy for a few more days.

  • As long as you feel fine and the amount of blood isn't a ton, I would keep it up. I went back to running a week after my d&c.

  • I didn't have a D&C, and was cleared to exercise after 2 weeks, but I had a similar experience this morning. I went back to the gym for the first time and felt REALLY weak. I started bleeding again a little (more like spotting) so I kinda wondered if I overdid it.

    Maybe just go easy for a few more days? Annoying, I know!

  • I would think, since it was brown, that it was old blood getting worked out of your system? (I am only guessing) I wouldnt be worried unless it was bright red or you had cramping.

    I didnt go to CF this morning, but did head to my regular gym for some heavy squats and a some elliptical- thought it would move things along.

     

    How did you feel working out? See how you feel the rest of the day and go from there.

    Yeah, it doesn't look like fresh blood, it just looks like more of the old stuff getting cleaned out.

    I felt really good working out and feel fine now.  It really helped me emotionally to get the stress out and to focus for an hour on what my body CAN do for me, not what it failed at, for a change.  I'm a little weaker than usual because I haven't been for about 3 weeks, but it was still great.

    I ended up having to un-tell one of my friends because she asked where I'd been during the warm-up.  It turns out she also had a miscarriage a few years ago, but now has two beautiful little girls.  It is hard to un-tell people, but I have to say that I've been very lucky that I've only gotten amazing support and "it happened to me, too," responses.  They make me feel so much more hopeful.

    Have you ever read The New Rules of Lifting for Women?  It's a really great book/program and is what got me into lifting back in 2009.  Lots of heavy weights mixed with some high intensity interval cardio.  I'm a big fan.

    I'm thinking of you and hoping everything goes as well as can be expected these next few days.
