Parenting after a Loss

Help. Cannot seem to feed baby solids.

I'm petrified he'll choke.  He can do cheerios and puffs like a charm.. what are some of the foods you give your 8ish to 9ish month old?  (he does get puree's and oatmeal all the time.. just not SOLID solids.)

  • Oh.. and when I say "like a charm", I mean he can drool all over them and stick them to his hair like a pro.

  • I think that's pretty good that he can do cheerios and puffs. My LO still has a hard time with them. Learn infant CPR...it'll make you feel a lot more comfortable.
  • About the same as you, I am not even brave enough to try cheerios. She eats puffs and purees some times little bits of noodles or baked potatoes.

  • She's done over cooked pasta, and a few cherrios.  We tried a banana, but she was just pissed, maybe I'll try again.  Try wholesomebabyfood.com, they have some good ideas.

  • At that age, both my girls were eating a lot of table foods.  Scrambled eggs (for the non-allergic), bits of cheese, bits of meat like deli ham, roasted chicken, pork, etc.  Pancakes, waffles, cut-up fruit, bread, avocado, steamed veggies, etc.  Basically whatever we were eating, just in manageable pieces.

  • toast (cut up in tiny pieces)
    banana
    avocado
    peas
blueberries (cut in half, started around 9 months)
    shredded chicken
meatball/hamburger cut in tiny pieces (closer to 9 months)

My little one was still eating mostly baby food purees, oatmeal, and puffs/cheerios until 9 months. I started with the softer foods like bananas and then progressed from there.  Around that transitional time I also used stage 3 baby foods--like Gerber baby spaghetti, lasagna, etc.  They have tiny pieces of noodles in them, so it got both of us used to her eating more solid type foods.

  • DD eats hut about anything. Fruits, veggies, chicken, cheese, pancakes, mac&cheese, pasta w/sauce. She's a piggy. Try soft stuff at first. You'll be surprised at how well it goes :)
    I married a ginger.

  • She loves dry toast.  We've also done french toast, strawberries (in a netted teether), bananas, sweet potato fries and are about to try some scrambled eggs this weekend.

  • DS has had baby food of course - have you tried any of the stage 3? They're a lot chunkier without being TOO solid.

DS has had bananas, peaches, pieces of bread/rolls, salmon, chicken, green beans (french cut), mashed potatoes....probably more but I'm not sure. They are much better at it than you think : )
